Riding Through Time in Tilcara

Today was a day of embracing the vastness and beauty of Tilcara, a day where the spirit of the Andes truly seeped into my soul. From horseback riding through breathtaking landscapes to savoring the authentic flavors of local cuisine, every moment felt like a vibrant brushstroke on the canvas of my Argentine adventure.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Nazareno resto bar. I savored every bite, knowing I needed the energy for the adventures ahead. The morning air was crisp, a gentle reminder that even in this vibrant corner of Argentina, the Andes reign supreme. I enjoyed some 'habas con queso de cabra, humita dulce y unas ensaladas muy sabrosas'.

Fueled and ready, I set off for Quebrada de la Cruz, eager to experience the landscape from a different perspective.

I booked a ride with Cabalgatas Pachacuti, and soon I found myself atop a sturdy, gentle horse, ready to explore. The Quebrada de la Cruz was stunning. The towering rock formations, painted in shades of red and ochre, seemed to whisper stories of ancient times. The vastness of the landscape was humbling, a reminder of nature’s enduring power. As we rode along the winding paths, I felt a sense of peace wash over me, the rhythm of the horse's hooves grounding me in the present moment. I could almost imagine what it was like to live in this region hundreds of years ago.

Sometimes, the greatest adventures are found not in grand gestures, but in the simple act of connecting with the land and its people.

After the ride, my stomach was telling me it was time for some delicious food. I headed to La Picanteria for lunch.

This restaurant is located in the quaint Plaza Peloc. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I opted for the three-course lunch menu, which included a spicy vegetable soup, llama escalope with salad, and handmade pasta. It was the best meal I’ve had so far! The owner clearly puts love into his dishes, and even shared some insights into northern culture.

With the sun beginning its descent, I decided to embrace Tilcara’s nightlife. I ventured to YOLO Tilcara, a bar known for its relaxed atmosphere and local wines.

Sipping on a glass of Malbec, I reflected on the day's adventures. The bar had a magical atmosphere, and there was even live music. It was the perfect way to unwind and soak in the vibrant energy of Tilcara. I can see why it gets a 4.7 star rating !

For dinner, I chose Parrilla Lo de Nico, drawn in by the promise of homemade food and a familial atmosphere.

Nico, the owner, greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel instantly welcome. I ordered a traditional Argentine parrilla, a mixed grill of various meats, and it was absolutely divine. The flavors were rich and savory, a testament to the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the chef. Nico even shared some tips for exploring the area, proving to be a gracious host. I enjoyed the exceptional homemade food.

As I walked back to my accommodation under the starlit sky, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the experiences of the day. Tilcara had revealed its beauty in so many ways, from the stunning landscapes to the warmth of its people. I am so happy I decided to come here. It is so different than Berlin!

Tomorrow, I plan to explore Camino a la Garganta del Diablo and Castillos de Huichaira. I'm also excited to have breakfast at Restaurante EL HUMAHUAQUEÑO, lunch at Restaurant Sirviñacu, and dinner at El Antigal de Tilcara Hostería y Restaurante. And of course, I'll be sure to stop by Arte Nativo to pick up some souvenirs. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

This trip has been so rewarding so far. I was a little nervous to travel solo, but it has allowed me to connect with the land and its people in a way I never thought possible. It's a reminder that sometimes, the greatest adventures are found not in grand gestures, but in the simple act of opening yourself up to new experiences. I am so excited to keep exploring this beautiful country!

I am so glad that Hans is supportive of my travels. I know he wishes he could be here with me, but I am happy to bring him back stories and photos to share. Maybe next time, we can come together!

Tilcara, you have captured my heart. Until tomorrow!
