Echoes of the Devil's Throat

Today was a day of exploration and immersion into the rugged beauty and rich history that Tilcara holds. I ventured into the heart of Jujuy's landscapes, seeking out both natural wonders and echoes of the past. From challenging hikes to savoring authentic regional cuisine, every moment was a sensory delight, reinforcing why I chose this solo journey.

My morning started with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante EL HUMAHUAQUEÑO. The aroma of freshly baked bread and the promise of traditional flavors drew me in. I opted for the *menu del dia* and was treated to a soul-warming soup, followed by a beef stew. It was the perfect fuel for the adventures that lay ahead. The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere, and it felt like a home away from home.

Fueled and ready, I set off towards the Camino a la Garganta del Diablo, or the Devil's Throat. The air was crisp, and the sun was just beginning to warm the valley. The hike itself was a bit challenging, but the views were more than worth the effort. The path wound its way through the rugged terrain, offering glimpses of the stunning rock formations and the vast, open sky. I made sure to wear my comfortable walking shoes, a decision I was immensely grateful for as I navigated the uneven ground. I was also kicking myself for forgetting sunscreen; the sun at this altitude is no joke, even in November.
As I hiked, I couldn't help but think about Hans back in Berlin. He would have loved this. We've tackled so many trails together, but this solo journey is something different, a chance for me to connect with myself and the world in a way that's uniquely personal.

Reaching the Garganta del Diablo was breathtaking. The waterfall cascaded down the rocks, creating a cool, misty atmosphere. I took some time to simply sit and absorb the power and beauty of nature. The sound of the water, the feel of the cool spray on my face – it was invigorating. I captured as many photos as I could, hoping to convey the experience to my readers and perhaps inspire them to embark on their own adventures.
Sometimes, the most rewarding journeys are those that challenge us, leading us to discover hidden beauty within ourselves and the world around us.

After the exhilarating hike, my stomach started to rumble, reminding me it was lunchtime. I headed to Restaurant Sirviñacu, drawn in by its promise of regional cuisine. I decided to try one of their empanadas and a *Llama Jujeña Burger*. The empanada was savory and satisfying, and the llama burger was a delightful culinary adventure. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed, making it a perfect spot to recharge after my morning hike. I enjoyed a refreshing *Limonada Sirviñacu* while planning the rest of my day.

With renewed energy, I ventured towards the Castillos de Huichaira. The landscape here was otherworldly, with rock formations that resembled ancient castles. The walk was less strenuous than the morning's hike, but equally rewarding. I lost myself in the surreal beauty of the landscape, snapping photos and marveling at the forces of nature that had shaped these formations over millennia.
The Castillos de Huichaira felt like stepping back in time. I imagined the people who had walked this land centuries ago, their lives intertwined with the rhythms of nature. It was a humbling experience, a reminder of the long and complex history of this region. I made sure to pack my reusable water bottle, which was essential for staying hydrated under the desert sun. Again, I wished I hadn't forgotten my portable phone charger; my battery was starting to dwindle, and I still had more exploring to do.

As the afternoon waned, I made my way to Arte Nativo. I wanted to find a unique souvenir that captured the essence of Tilcara. The shop was a treasure trove of handcrafted items, from jewelry to textiles to ceramics. I spent a good hour browsing, admiring the skill and artistry of the local artisans. I finally settled on a beautiful hand-woven scarf, its colors reflecting the vibrant hues of the Andean landscape. The shop assistant told me about the artisan who had created it, adding another layer of meaning to my purchase. It's more than just a scarf; it's a piece of Tilcara's soul.

Before heading back to my lodging, I decided to treat myself to dinner at El Antigal de Tilcara Hostería y Restaurante. The restaurant had a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the menu featured a range of regional specialties. I opted for a traditional stew, savoring each bite as I reflected on the day's adventures. The staff was attentive and friendly, making me feel welcome and comfortable. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploration.

The hosteria looked amazing and it is located very close to the main square. I will definitely consider staying there if I return to Tilcara. I read about the Museo Irureta and PUEDRAMORA TILCARA [Antigua Tilcara Guesthouse] and I am looking forward to visiting them tomorrow. I am also planning to have breakfast at A La Payla Restaurant, lunch at Restaurante Azul, and dinner at EL MOLLE RESTO BAR. And to finish the day, I might visit Lucifer lounge Bar for a drink.

As I walked back to my accommodation under the starlit sky, I felt a deep sense of gratitude. Tilcara had welcomed me with open arms, offering a blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and warm hospitality. It's a place that nourishes the soul, reminding me of the simple joys of exploration and connection. Tomorrow, I plan to delve deeper into the local culture, visiting museums and perhaps taking a pottery class. I can't wait to see what new adventures await.

Tilcara has a lot of artesanias and I think I will buy some gifts for Hans and my family. I am also thinking of getting a llama wool sweater for Hans, as I know he would appreciate it. I also want to get a small painting of the Pucará de Tilcara, as it is one of the most iconic landmarks in the area. I might also get some empanada spices to try to replicate the delicious empanadas I had at Restaurante EL HUMAHUAQUEÑO.

Tomorrow promises more discovery, with plans to visit the Museo Irureta and explore the artistic expressions of the region. I'm also intrigued by PUEDRAMORA TILCARA, and I am looking forward to experiencing its unique charm. I'll make sure to share all the details with you, my dear readers. Until then, *adiós* from Tilcara! I am thinking of extending my stay for a couple of days as I am really enjoying the town and its surroundings. I might also take a day trip to Humahuaca, as I have heard it is another beautiful town in the Quebrada de Humahuaca. I am also considering visiting Salinas Grandes, the salt flats, but I am not sure if I will have enough time.
For now, though, I am content to simply soak in the atmosphere of this magical place. I am already looking forward to my next adventure, wherever it may take me.
