Our first stop was the Levuka Public School. Established in 1879, it holds the distinction of being the first public school in Fiji. Standing before its historic buildings, I couldn't help but imagine the generations of Fijian leaders who walked these halls, shaping the future of our nation. Standing before the monument, I felt a surge of pride and gratitude for his contributions. The monument itself is a simple yet powerful tribute, set against the backdrop of Levuka's serene landscape. The boutique is a treasure trove of Fijian crafts, clothing, and souvenirs. Mere found a beautiful hand-printed sulu (Fijian sarong), while Sailosi picked out a carved wooden war club. I couldn't resist buying a few small trinkets for my friends back in Vancouver. It's always nice to bring back a piece of Fiji to share with those who couldn't make the trip. The owner of the boutique was incredibly friendly and shared stories about the local artisans who created the items. It's these personal connections that make shopping in Levuka so special.
