Quacking Good Times and Botanical Bliss
Today was a delightful mix of the unexpected and the serene, a true testament to the diverse experiences Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park has to offer. From a quirky duck farm to a tranquil botanical garden, it was a day of delightful contrasts and immersion in the local culture and natural beauty.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at The Villas Restaurant, where I fueled up for the adventures ahead. The anticipation was building as I set off for my first stop: The Duck Stop. I had heard whispers and seen snippets online, but nothing could have prepared me for the sheer hilarity and unique charm of this place. It was about 10 kilometers outside of Phong Nha town, and I enjoyed the scenic bicycle ride to get there.

Upon arriving, I was greeted by the friendly family who runs the farm. They handed me a refreshing cold drink and a pair of those classic Vietnamese hats and jelly shoes. Then, it was time to meet the stars of the show: over 120 ducks residing in what they fondly call Duck Heaven.
The experience was utterly absurd and incredibly fun. I fed the ducks, giggling as they swarmed around me. Then came the duck massage – a ticklish and bizarre sensation as the ducks nibbled at my hands and feet. I even got to lead the ducks around, feeling like a pied piper of the avian world.
It's not every day you get to be chased by a flock of ducks, and it's moments like these that make travel so incredibly rewarding.
After the duck extravaganza, I was thoroughly hosed down with antibacterial soap, which I appreciated immensely. The final touch was enjoying some freshly cooked spring rolls made by the family's matriarch – a delicious end to a truly unique experience.
Leaving The Duck Stop with a smile plastered on my face, I made my way to the Phong Nha Botanic Garden. After the lively chaos of the duck farm, the serene atmosphere of the garden was a welcome contrast. The garden is located about 12 kilometers northwest of Phong Nha town. The entrance fee was quite affordable.

The Botanic Garden is a haven of biodiversity, showcasing the rich flora and fauna of the region. I wandered along the well-maintained trails, admiring the diverse plant species and the lush greenery. The garden has over 500 plant species and different native animal species. The air was fresh and clean, filled with the sounds of nature. I explored the different trails, each offering a unique perspective on the local ecosystem.
One of the highlights was the Gio Waterfall, cascading down the rocks amidst the dense foliage. I took a refreshing shower and captured some beautiful photos. I also spent some time at the Vang Anh Lake, enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings.
As the day drew to a close, I made my way back to Phong Nha town, feeling a sense of contentment and connection with nature. For dinner, I decided to try Nhà Hàng Hải Sản Nhật Phong 3, a seafood restaurant known for its fresh and delicious dishes. I savored the flavors of the local cuisine, reflecting on the day's adventures.

Tomorrow, I plan to visit the Phong Nha Tourism Center, hoping to gather more information about the region's conservation efforts and perhaps book another tour. It's incredible how much this area has to offer, and I'm eager to delve deeper into its wonders. I'm also planning to visit Miu Shop to pick up some souvenirs.
Phong Nha-Ke Bang continues to surprise me with its blend of adventure, tranquility, and cultural richness. It's a place where you can find the unexpected around every corner, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience it all.
