Valley Views and Village Vibes
Today was nothing short of spectacular! I woke up with a sense of excitement, knowing that the Dades Valley had more hidden gems waiting for Klara and me. The promise of panoramic views, coupled with the allure of local markets, made for a day I won't soon forget. It’s amazing how much a change of scenery can invigorate the soul, especially when you’re sharing it with your best travel buddies.
Our day began with breakfast at Café restaurant amazir. The café had a cozy atmosphere, and the staff were incredibly welcoming. I opted for a traditional Moroccan breakfast of mint tea and msemen, a flaky pancake that provided the perfect fuel for our adventures. Klara enjoyed some fresh fruit and yogurt, a lighter option that suited her just fine. Sipping the sweet mint tea, I felt grateful for the simple pleasures of travel and the chance to experience new cultures firsthand.
With our bellies full and spirits high, we set off to explore the famed Dades view. The drive itself was an experience, with winding roads that offered glimpses of the valley's dramatic landscape. As we ascended, the views became increasingly breathtaking. Finally, we reached the viewpoint, and I was completely awestruck. The Dades Valley stretched out before us, a tapestry of green oases, red cliffs, and ancient kasbahs. It was one of those moments where you feel incredibly small yet connected to something vast and beautiful. Klara, ever the architect, was captivated by the way the traditional buildings blended seamlessly with the natural environment.

I took out my camera, trying to capture the essence of the scene, but photographs simply can't do it justice. It’s one of those vistas you have to witness in person to truly appreciate. The vastness of the valley, the play of light and shadow on the rocks, and the sense of timelessness all combined to create an unforgettable impression. Mateo would have loved climbing on the rocks here. I made a mental note to bring him back someday. Maybe we could even convince Klara's parents to join us; they’d certainly appreciate the views and the fresh air.
The beauty of the Dades Valley lies not just in its landscapes, but in the way it connects you to the earth and its people.
After soaking in the views, we decided to immerse ourselves in the heart of the Dadès Vallei itself. Driving down into the valley, we were immediately enveloped by lush greenery and the sounds of the Dades River. We passed through small villages, each with its own unique charm. Children waved as we drove by, and the scent of date palms filled the air. It felt like stepping into a different world, far removed from the hustle and bustle of Potsdam.

Lunch was at Isabel - Chez Moha, a restaurant recommended by several locals. The setting was idyllic, with tables set on a terrace overlooking the valley. The menu featured a mix of Berber and Moroccan dishes, and we decided to try a bit of everything. We shared a tagine with tender lamb and vegetables, as well as some flavorful couscous. The food was delicious, but the real highlight was the ambiance. Surrounded by the beauty of the Dades Valley, we savored each bite and felt grateful for the opportunity to experience such authentic cuisine.

Next on our list was a visit to DADES VERT, a local shop known for its traditional Berber products. I was eager to find some unique souvenirs to bring back home, and Klara was on the hunt for some natural dyes for her architectural projects. The shop was a treasure trove of colorful textiles, handmade carpets, and fragrant spices. We spent hours browsing, chatting with the friendly shopkeepers, and learning about the local crafts. I ended up buying a beautiful Berber rug, while Klara found some vibrant natural dyes derived from local plants.

As the afternoon wore on, we made our way to Auberge Chez Pierre for dinner. This auberge is nestled in the Dades Gorges and is known for its innovative cuisine that fuses European and Moroccan flavors. The auberge itself was stunning, with traditional architecture blending seamlessly with the natural landscape. We sat on the terrace, enjoying the cool evening breeze and the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. For dinner, I had a delicious tagine, while Klara enjoyed a vegetarian couscous dish. The flavors were complex and satisfying, and the presentation was impeccable. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploration and discovery.

As we savored our meal, we reflected on the day's adventures. From the breathtaking views to the vibrant souks, the Dades Valley had truly captured our hearts. I felt a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to experience such a unique and beautiful place, and I knew that this was a day I would cherish forever. Klara, always the pragmatist, was already planning our next adventure. Tomorrow, we're heading to Chemin du Canyon and Gorges Dadès, and I can't wait to see what other wonders await us.
Back at our campsite, under a blanket of stars, I journaled about our day. These moments of reflection are so important. They allow me to process everything I’ve seen and experienced, and to truly appreciate the beauty of the world around us. Plus, writing helps me remember the little details that might otherwise fade with time. I can’t wait to share all of these memories with Mateo when I get back. He’s growing up so fast, and I want him to know all about the amazing places his parents have explored. Maybe one day, he’ll join us on one of these adventures.
As I drifted off to sleep, I felt a sense of contentment and excitement for what tomorrow would bring. The Dades Valley had already exceeded my expectations, and I knew that the best was yet to come. Good night from Morocco!
