As our penultimate day on the Con Dao Islands unfolded, it was a symphony of relaxation, culinary exploration, and a touch of souvenir hunting. With the sun shining and a gentle breeze rustling through the palm trees, it felt like the perfect day to simply soak in the island's charm and create lasting memories with Klara and Mateo.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at An Ơi Cafe & Restaurant. It's a charming local spot that Klara had read about, known for its fresh, healthy meals and vegan-friendly options. Stepping inside, we were greeted by a cozy, plant-filled atmosphere that instantly put us at ease. Mateo, as always, was thrilled with the pancakes, declaring them even better than the ones I attempt to make back in Potsdam. Klara enjoyed a vibrant smoothie packed with local fruits, while I opted for a strong Vietnamese coffee to kickstart my day. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploration and relaxation.

After breakfast, we decided to indulge in some pampering at the Six Senses Con Dao. The resort is renowned for its spa, and Klara and I were eager to experience its luxurious treatments. Mateo, of course, was more interested in the kids' club, which, according to online reviews, offers a range of engaging activities. So, we dropped him off with the friendly staff and made our way to the spa.

The spa at Six Senses was an oasis of tranquility. The therapists were highly skilled, and the aromatic surroundings created a truly luxurious and comforting experience. I opted for a massage that eased away all the tension from our travels, while Klara enjoyed a rejuvenating facial. Emerging from the spa, we both felt refreshed and ready to embrace the rest of the day. Six Senses Con Dao is truly a fantastic resort, blending into the natural setting. The resort is contemporary in design and reflects the essence of a traditional fishing village.

For lunch, we ventured to Nhà hàng Thu Tâm, a local restaurant known for its fresh seafood. We had heard great things about it, and I was eager to try some authentic Vietnamese dishes. The restaurant was bustling with locals and tourists alike, creating a lively atmosphere. We ordered a variety of dishes, including grilled fish, seafood spring rolls, and a flavorful prawn curry. Mateo, surprisingly, devoured everything, even asking for seconds of the prawn curry. It was a testament to the restaurant's delicious food and Mateo's adventurous palate. The seafood was incredibly fresh, a true highlight of dining in Con Dao.

After our satisfying lunch, we decided to do a little shopping at Đồ Lễ Côn Đảo 28°. It was time to pick up some souvenirs for our friends and family back home. The shop offered a variety of local crafts, including handmade jewelry, silk scarves, and traditional Vietnamese clothing. Klara, with her keen eye for design, carefully selected a few unique pieces, while Mateo insisted on getting a miniature Con Dao prison replica for his history-loving grandfather. I picked up a few bottles of local fish sauce, hoping it would survive the journey back to Potsdam.

As the afternoon sun began to dip towards the horizon, we made our way to Bar 200 - By The Beach for dinner. This beachside restaurant is known for its stunning ocean views and relaxed atmosphere. We settled into comfortable bean bag chairs on the sand, the sound of the waves crashing providing a soothing soundtrack to our meal. The menu offered a mix of local Vietnamese dishes and international favorites, so we ordered a variety of items to share. Mateo, predictably, opted for pizza, while Klara and I enjoyed some fresh seafood and expertly crafted cocktails. As the sun set, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, we raised our glasses in a toast to another unforgettable day in Con Dao.

The atmosphere at Bar 200 was perfect – a blend of relaxation and good vibes, with friendly staff and great music. It was the ideal spot to unwind and reflect on our experiences on the island. The bar is known as the first western operated eatery and bar in Con Son town. The location is right on the beach, and you can have your food delivered to your spot.

Reflecting on the day, I realized how much I appreciated these moments of simple pleasure – a delicious meal, a relaxing spa treatment, a unique souvenir. It's these small experiences that often create the most lasting memories. Con Dao has a number of attractions to offer.

As we head into our final day tomorrow, we plan to enjoy a leisurely breakfast at Infinity Cafe & Restaurant before heading to the airport. It's a bittersweet feeling, leaving this island paradise, but I know we'll carry the memories of Con Dao with us long after we've returned to Potsdam. I am excited to see what our final day brings before we leave this beautiful island.
