Today was a beautiful Sunday dedicated to exploring more of Kanazawa's tranquil spots and indulging in its local cuisine. It’s days like these that remind me why I chose this city for my solo journey – the perfect blend of serene landscapes and culinary adventures.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Iki-iki Tei. This restaurant is nestled in the heart of Omicho Market, and it promised an unforgettable culinary experience. I opted for a traditional Japanese breakfast set, which included grilled fish, miso soup, and pickled vegetables. The fish was incredibly fresh, a testament to the market's proximity and the restaurant's commitment to quality. As I savored each bite, I couldn't help but think of Sophie and Mateo back in Montreal. They would have loved this place, especially Mateo with his adventurous palate.

After breakfast, I decided to visit Kotoji Toro, an iconic stone lantern in Kenrokuen Garden. Although I've visited Kenrokuen Garden before, I wanted to appreciate this particular spot. The lantern's unique shape, with its uneven legs, is said to resemble the bridges on a koto, a Japanese harp. It's a picturesque scene, and I spent a good while simply soaking in the view. The melting snow added to the scenic beauty, making it a must-see location.

It was a peaceful scene, and I found myself reflecting on the importance of green spaces in urban environments.

Despite the queue, I was quickly seated and presented with an English menu. I ordered the chef's selection of sashimi, which included a variety of local fish. Each piece was incredibly fresh and flavorful, a true testament to Kanazawa's reputation as a gourmet city. I also tried their house special sake, which perfectly complemented the meal.

As the afternoon waned, I decided to explore the area around the bridge. I discovered several charming tea houses and vibrant local markets. I couldn't resist stopping at one of the tea houses for a traditional matcha tea and a sweet Japanese treat. The tea was expertly prepared, and the treat was a delightful combination of flavors and textures.

For dinner, I had made a reservation at Japanese Restaurant 'Benkay'. Located in Hotel Nikko Kanazawa, Benkay is renowned for its fresh ingredients and impeccable craftsmanship. I opted for their signature black steamed sushi, which was a culinary masterpiece. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the presentation was exquisite. The restaurant's elegant yet simple design added to the overall dining experience.

It was a unique and memorable experience, and I appreciated the attention to detail and the passion for mixology.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, I plan to visit Kanazawa Castle, Kaga-Yuzen Kimono Center, and Myozenji. I'm particularly excited about exploring Kanazawa Castle, as it's a significant historical landmark in the city. I'm also looking forward to learning more about Kaga-Yuzen kimonos, a traditional craft in Kanazawa.

As I finished my drink at Bar Spoon, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. Kanazawa had exceeded my expectations, and I was eager to continue exploring its hidden gems. With a smile on my face, I made my way back to the hotel, ready for another day of adventure.
