A Fond Farewell to Pelion

As our week-long adventure in Mount Pelion draws to a close, I find myself filled with a bittersweet mix of emotions. This journey has been nothing short of magical, a deep dive into the heart of Greece that has left an indelible mark on my soul. It's a place where every corner holds a new discovery, a new story, and a new reason to fall in love with the simple joys of life. I'm so grateful to have shared this experience with Hans, whose unwavering support and shared appreciation for sustainable travel made it all the more special.

Our final day began with a hearty breakfast at Tavern Pelion Geuseis in Portaria. The warm hospitality and traditional Greek dishes were the perfect start to the day. Christos, the waiter, was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. We savored every bite, reminiscing about our favorite moments from the past week. The Skopelos cheese-pie was definitely a highlight! It's amazing how food can encapsulate the essence of a place, and this taverna truly delivered an authentic taste of Pelion.

After breakfast, we decided to immerse ourselves in nature one last time with a visit to the Stream at Poros. The drive there was scenic, passing through lush landscapes and charming villages. Upon arrival, the tranquility of the stream was immediately soothing. We strolled along the banks, listening to the gentle flow of the water and taking in the vibrant flora surrounding us. It was a perfect spot for reflection, allowing us to fully appreciate the beauty of Pelion.

Next on our itinerary was the Pelion Cross of Jesus Observation Point. The drive up was a bit winding, but the panoramic views from the top were absolutely worth it. From this vantage point, we could see the vast expanse of the Aegean Sea and the rolling hills of Pelion. It was a breathtaking sight, a reminder of the natural wonders that this region has to offer. We spent some time simply soaking in the scenery, feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience such beauty.

For lunch, we ventured to Souarè Anelion Pelion, a restaurant known for its intimate atmosphere and delicious Greek cuisine. Hans and I shared some tasty ribs and meatballs. The restaurant's setting, near a charming churchyard, added to its appeal. The friendly staff and the overall ambiance made it a memorable dining experience.

In the afternoon, we decided to do some souvenir shopping at Doralia Αρχιπελάγος. I was on the hunt for unique, locally made items that would remind us of our time in Pelion. I found a beautiful hand-painted ceramic bowl and a set of olive wood coasters. Supporting local artisans is important to me, and it felt good to bring home pieces that were both beautiful and sustainable.

As the day wound down, we stopped by Minelska bar for a relaxing drink. The bar had a lovely waterfront terrace with inspiring views of the Pagasitic Bay. We enjoyed some exotic cocktails as we watched the sunset, reminiscing about our Pelion adventure. It was the perfect way to end our final day, savoring the last moments of our Greek getaway.

For our farewell dinner, we chose Polydroso restaurant in Pouri. This cozy haven offered authentic Greek cuisine crafted from local ingredients. The romantic setting, outdoor seating, and stunning views made it an unforgettable dining experience. We savored dishes like lamb souvlaki, enjoying the flavors of Pelion one last time. The exceptional service and warm ambiance added to the overall charm of the restaurant. Polydroso restaurant is a bit remotely positioned but without doubt worth the effort.

As I reflect on our week in Mount Pelion, I'm struck by the incredible diversity of experiences we've had. From hiking scenic trails to indulging in local cuisine, from exploring traditional villages to relaxing on serene beaches, this region has truly captured my heart. The people we've met along the way have been warm and welcoming, eager to share their culture and traditions.

I am particularly grateful for the opportunity to explore Pelion through a sustainable lens. We made a conscious effort to support local businesses, minimize our environmental impact, and respect the natural beauty of the region. It's important to me that our travels contribute positively to the places we visit, and I believe we were able to do that in Pelion.

I am also grateful that we managed the unforeseen challenge of forgetting some of our trip essentials, such as sunscreen and travel adapters. It taught us to be more adaptable and resourceful, turning potential setbacks into opportunities for learning and growth.

Mount Pelion has a special charm that will stay with me. I leave with a promise to return, to further explore its hidden corners and continue to support its sustainable tourism initiatives. Thank you, Pelion, for an unforgettable journey.

While our Pelion adventure has come to an end, the memories and experiences will last a lifetime. We'll be heading back to Berlin tomorrow, filled with inspiration and a renewed appreciation for the beauty of slow, sustainable travel. Until next time, Pelion!

Safe travels, everyone!
