Today was a day of embracing the raw, untamed beauty of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. I set out to explore some of its most dramatic landscapes and hidden culinary gems. It was a day filled with breathtaking views, invigorating hikes, and delicious food, a perfect blend of nature and culture that makes this region so special. As a freelance urban gardener from Berlin, I always find solace and inspiration in natural settings, and today was no exception.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Mela Canela in Sintra. This charming, plant-based cafe is a true gem, offering a variety of delicious and healthy options. I opted for the toast with tofu, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes, which was absolutely delicious and provided the perfect fuel for the day's adventures. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. It's wonderful to find a place that aligns with my values of sustainable living and healthy eating.

With a full stomach and a spring in my step, I headed towards Pico do Monge. The drive itself was an experience, winding through lush forests and offering glimpses of the stunning coastline. As I ascended, the views became increasingly panoramic, showcasing the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean and the rolling hills of the natural park. It was a bit cloudy, but the views were still amazing. I could see the clouds rolling in from the ocean, creating a mystical atmosphere.

Next on my itinerary was Praia da Ursa, a beach known for its dramatic cliffs and secluded location. Getting there required a bit of a hike, which added to the adventure. I even braved the cold water for a quick dip, which was incredibly refreshing. It was the perfect opportunity to disconnect from the world and reconnect with myself.

With the sun beginning to dip towards the horizon, it was time to head back. The hike back up from Praia da Ursa was challenging, but the sense of accomplishment made it worthwhile. I took my time, stopping to catch my breath and admire the view. As I reached the top, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction and gratitude.

Before heading back to my apartment, I made a stop at Decathlon Sintra. Remembering that I had forgotten to pack an umbrella, I decided to pick one up, as the weather forecast for the next few days was uncertain. I also grabbed an extra memory card for my camera, as I had been taking so many photos and didn't want to run out of space. The store was well-stocked and the staff were helpful, making it a quick and easy stop.

The restaurant also had a great selection of local wines, and I enjoyed a glass of crisp white wine with my meal. It was a perfect spot to relax and refuel after a day of hiking.

As the day drew to a close, I made my way to Restaurante Sabores Do Mercado in Sintra for dinner. The meal was an absolute delight, and I left feeling satisfied and content.

This solo trip has been a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with nature and myself. As someone who lives in a bustling city, it's easy to get caught up in the daily grind. But being surrounded by such natural beauty reminds me of what's truly important. It's a reminder to slow down, appreciate the simple things, and embrace the beauty that surrounds us.
