As we continued our journey through the Fish River Canyon, the landscape spoke to us in whispers of history and the grandeur of nature. Our day began with a hearty breakfast at the Canyon Roadhouse, Gondwana Collection Namibia. The Roadhouse is more than just a place to eat; it’s an experience in itself. The quirky décor, filled with vintage cars and transport memorabilia, transported us back in time. Sipping on a strong cup of Namibian coffee, I felt a sense of excitement for the day ahead. David was particularly fascinated by the old Chevys and Fords, reminiscing about his younger days and sharing stories with Aina.

After breakfast, we set out to explore more of the Fish River Canyon. The vastness of the canyon is simply overwhelming. Standing at the edge, I felt a humbling sense of perspective, realizing how small we are in the face of such ancient and powerful forces. As we drove further, we made a stop at PEP Aussenkehr Shopping Centre Namibia. While it might seem like an ordinary shopping center, it offered a glimpse into the daily lives of the local people. We picked up some snacks and, admittedly, I was tempted to buy a new dress – the colorful fabrics were just too beautiful to resist. However, remembering my promise to pack light, I settled for a few small souvenirs. It was a reminder that even in the most remote areas, life goes on, and communities thrive.

For lunch, we found a scenic spot overlooking the Fish River Canyon. We unpacked our picnic basket and enjoyed a simple meal of sandwiches, fruit, and biltong, a traditional Namibian dried meat. The view was breathtaking, and we savored the moment, feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience such natural beauty as a family.
