Day three in Essaouira, and the blend of bracing Atlantic air and rich cultural tapestry continues to enchant. Today was a mix of exhilarating activity and relaxed exploration, a balance that perfectly captures the spirit of this Moroccan coastal town. The children were particularly excited about the prospect of watersports, while David and I looked forward to wandering the Medina. Aina, as always, was keen on both!

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at La Coupole Essaouira Beach, a spot recommended by several locals for its stunning views and delicious fare. The restaurant, with its arty and eco-friendly vibe, is just a short walk from our hotel. Sipping on strong coffee while overlooking the Plage d'Essaouira, I felt a surge of anticipation for the day ahead. The fresh sea air invigorated us, and the promise of adventure hung in the balance.

After breakfast, we headed straight for Explora Watersports. Essaouira is renowned for its wind conditions, making it a haven for kitesurfers and surfers alike. While I'm more of a spectator than a participant when it comes to extreme sports, David and Aina were eager to try their hand at kitesurfing. The instructors at Explora were fantastic, providing a thorough introduction to the sport and ensuring everyone felt safe and confident. The December wind was strong but manageable, and soon David and Aina were gliding across the waves, whooping with delight. Even the children had a go at boogie boarding and were thrilled by the waves. Seeing them enjoy themselves so much was truly heartwarming.

I watched from the shore, feeling the cool spray of the Atlantic on my face. The beach was bustling with activity, yet there was a sense of calm that permeated the air. After a morning of watersports, we were all ravenous. We decided to have lunch at Retro Corner Essaouira, a cozy restaurant known for its healthy options and vegan-friendly menu. This was a delightful find! The interior was cheerful and inviting, and the staff were incredibly welcoming. I opted for the chickpea soup, while David enjoyed a vegetarian burger. Aina and the children devoured the veggie pastilla and some vegan pastries. It was a satisfying and delicious meal that left us feeling energized for the afternoon ahead.

With our bellies full, we ventured into the Medina of Essaouira. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a labyrinth of narrow alleyways, bustling squares, and vibrant shops. I was particularly excited to visit Histoire de Filles, a concept store that blends fashion, crafts, and design. The shop is located near Bab Sbaa, making it easily accessible from the Medina entrance.

As we stepped inside Histoire de Filles, I was immediately captivated by the eclectic mix of clothing, accessories, and jewelry. The store showcases the work of local artisans, and I was impressed by the quality and craftsmanship of the items on display. I found a beautiful, flowing dress that reminded me of Namibia, and Aina picked out a unique piece of jewelry. The children were fascinated by the colorful displays and the intricate designs.

We spent the afternoon wandering through the Medina, soaking up the atmosphere and haggling for souvenirs. The air was filled with the scent of spices, the sound of music, and the chatter of locals and tourists alike. It was a sensory overload in the best possible way. I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience this vibrant culture with my family.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Le Love by Caravane, a restaurant known for its lively ambiance and fusion of Moroccan and Asian cuisine. The decor was colorful and eclectic, with a mix of Moroccan and South Beach kitsch. The owner, an artist himself, greeted us warmly and made us feel right at home. The restaurant has a unique outdoor seating area, complete with a swimming pool, turtle doves, and even a peacock. It felt like a scene from a movie.

The food was exquisite. We started with the pastilla de poulet and the accras de poisson, both of which were bursting with flavor. For our main courses, David and I opted for the filet de Saint-Pierre, while Aina chose the souris d'agneau caramélisée. The children enjoyed the simpler fare of grilled fish and couscous. Every dish was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection.

The evening was made even more special by the live music and entertainment. There were dancers and even a fire show, which captivated the children. The atmosphere was festive and joyful, and it was the perfect way to end our day in Essaouira.

As we walked back to Hotel Des Iles under the starlit sky, I reflected on the day's adventures. From the exhilarating watersports to the vibrant Medina and the delightful culinary experiences, Essaouira had once again exceeded my expectations. P.S. I almost forgot! I managed to find a lovely adapter for our Moroccan power outlets at a small shop in the Medina. And I purchased an extra memory card for my camera, ensuring I won't miss a single moment of our adventure.
