Alleppey Adventures: Speed, Scenery, and Spice!

Today was a whirlwind of excitement and flavors here in Alleppey! I'm always on the lookout for experiences that blend adventure with a taste of local culture, and today did not disappoint. With Priya and Aarav by my side, we dove headfirst into the heart of this 'Venice of the East'. From zooming across the water on speedboats to savoring authentic Kerala cuisine, every moment was a vibrant thread in the tapestry of our family adventure.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Oru Dosa Company ODC. The name itself was intriguing, and I was eager to see what this place had to offer.

Located in Kodiveedu, Alappuzha, ODC, as it is widely known, is celebrated for its extensive and delectable dosa offerings. The reviews I had read mentioned a unique, dosa-oriented interior design, which immediately piqued my curiosity.

As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by a vibrant, inviting atmosphere. The restaurant was clean, and we could see right into the kitchen, which I always appreciate. Aarav's eyes lit up at the sight of the dosas being made – it was quite the show! I decided to try their special masala dosa, while Priya opted for the chicken keema dosa, and Aarav, ever the predictable one, chose a plain cheese dosa. My dosa was perfectly crisp and the filling was flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. Priya raved about hers, saying the keema was seasoned perfectly. Aarav, of course, devoured his in record time. ODC definitely lived up to its reputation, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting Alleppey.

After breakfast, it was time for some action! We headed to JALAPUSHPAM SPEEDBOATS, a must-do according to my research.

The thrill of speeding across the serene waters was an exhilarating contrast to the peaceful backwaters we'd been gently cruising through the other day. Aarav was ecstatic, yelling with joy as the wind whipped through his hair. Priya, ever the composed one, managed a smile while holding on tight. I, of course, was in my element, loving every second of the adrenaline rush. The speedboats are located close to other landmarks.

Cruising on the speedboat gave us a different perspective of Alleppey. From the water, we could see the lush greenery, the quaint villages, and the daily life unfolding along the banks. It was a fantastic way to appreciate the beauty of the backwaters in a thrilling way. I made a mental note to try the canoe boating tomorrow [Canoe Boating Aleppey] for a more intimate experience of the canals.

Next on our itinerary was a visit to Canal Palam. This historic sea bridge, also known as Alleppey Sea Bridge, stretches into the Arabian Sea.

Although no longer in use, it stands as a testament to Alleppey's rich maritime past. As we walked along the weathered pier, I couldn't help but imagine the bustling port it once was, filled with ships and traders from around the world. The rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the wooden planks created a calming effect, and the views of the sea and sky were simply breathtaking. It was the perfect spot for some quiet reflection and, of course, a few family photos. The kids enjoyed the views of Alleppey Beach, that stretches out nearby.

Sometimes, the best travel experiences are the ones that combine a bit of adventure with a healthy dose of culture and a whole lot of delicious food.
Lunch was at Rice Boat pure vegetarian Restaurant. Now, I'm not a vegetarian by any means, but I'm always open to trying new things, and Priya had heard great things about this place.

Located in Mullakkal, this restaurant has a stellar rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars from 317 reviews. And it is located not far away from the Alleppey railway station.

Rice Boat is known for its impeccable cleanliness and hygiene, offering a delightful ambiance that enhances the dining experience.

The restaurant was indeed spotless, and the ambiance was serene. We ordered a variety of dishes, including their signature Kerala meal served on a traditional banana leaf, Amritsari Paneer Fingers, and masala dosa. The Kerala meal was a feast for the eyes and the taste buds, with a variety of flavorful curries, rice, and accompaniments. The paneer fingers were crispy and delicious, and the masala dosa was perfectly spiced. Even Aarav, who usually turns up his nose at vegetarian food, enjoyed the meal. It was a delightful surprise, and I have to admit, I didn't miss the meat at all!

As the day drew to a close, we decided to unwind at Barbara any time beer. I know, I know, it's not exactly a cultural experience, but after a day of sightseeing, a cold beer was definitely in order.

Barbara Any Time Beer is a popular spot in Alappuzha, known for its lively charm and refreshing drinks. It's the perfect place to relax and soak in the local atmosphere.

We sat outside, enjoying the cool evening breeze and watching the world go by. Priya sipped on a lime soda, while Aarav enjoyed a mango juice. I savored my beer, reflecting on the day's adventures. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.

For dinner, we decided to try Chillies Restaurant Alappuzha. I had read mixed reviews about this place, but I was curious to try it for myself.

Located near Valiyakulam Junction, Chillies Restaurant is a popular spot with a seating capacity of around sixty people. It's known for its variety of dishes, including the highly recommended beef masala curry.

The restaurant was bustling with activity when we arrived. We managed to find a table and ordered the beef masala curry, along with some porottas and rice. The beef masala curry was indeed delicious, with tender pieces of beef in a rich, flavorful gravy. However, the porottas were a bit burnt, which was a disappointment. Overall, the experience was decent, but not as exceptional as some of the other places we've tried. I think I'll stick to the beef masala curry if I ever come back.

As I sit here, penning down my thoughts, I can't help but feel grateful for the experiences we had today. Alleppey has truly captured my heart, and I'm looking forward to exploring more of its hidden gems. Tomorrow, we plan to explore Canoe Boating Aleppey and Alleppey Hub [from tomorrow's itinerary], promising another day filled with adventure and discovery.

I'm also thinking of trying the local toddy shops, like Ambady Toddy Shop, for a taste of authentic Kerala. And perhaps a bit of shopping at OneX Gifts to pick up some souvenirs for friends and family back home. Until then, goodnight from Alleppey!
