Exploring the Natural Beauty of Ourika Valley

A Moroccan Tapestry of Scents, Sights, and Serenity

Today was a day of immersing ourselves even deeper into the heart of Morocco's Ourika Valley. It was a sensory feast, a visual delight, and a soul-soothing experience all rolled into one. From the heights of Kasbah Bab Ourika to the fragrant depths of Nectarome, every moment felt like a precious discovery.

Our day began with a hearty Moroccan breakfast at Dar Hafida. The tagine was flavorful, and the mint tea was the perfect eye-opener. Fuelled up, we set off to explore our first destination: Kasbah Bab Ourika.

The drive itself was an experience, with the winding roads offering panoramic views of the valley. As we approached the Kasbah, I was immediately struck by its imposing presence, perched majestically on a hilltop. The views from up there were simply breathtaking. The lush valley stretched out before us, a tapestry of green fields and terracotta rooftops. I could see why this place is so highly rated; it truly felt like we were on top of the world.

We spent a couple of hours wandering through the Kasbah's gardens, filled with olive trees and vibrant flowers. The air was alive with the sound of birdsong, and the scent of blossoms hung heavy in the air. It was incredibly peaceful, a world away from the hustle and bustle of Berlin. I made a mental note to try and recreate some of the garden's tranquility back on my rooftop in Neukölln. Maybe Hans could help me build a small fountain – the sound of water always calms me.

Next on our list was Azrou Melloul West Bank. To be honest, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but the drive there was stunning. The landscape shifted, becoming more rugged and dramatic as we ascended into the mountains. When we arrived, we were greeted by sweeping vistas of the Atlas Mountains. I took some time to just sit and soak it all in, feeling grateful for the opportunity to witness such natural beauty.

After our mountain interlude, it was time for some retail therapy at Nectarome. As an urban beekeeper, I'm always drawn to natural products, and Nectarome promised a sensory experience. The organic aromatic garden was a delight, showcasing a wide variety of medicinal and ornamental plants. I learned about the traditional uses of many of these plants, and I was fascinated by the way Nectarome combines ancient wisdom with modern techniques to create their products.

I picked up a few essential oils and a luxurious-smelling argan oil for my skin. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable, explaining the benefits of each product and offering personalized recommendations. I even learned a few new tips for incorporating herbs and essential oils into my beekeeping practice – perhaps I can create a special honey infused with local flavors!

Lunch was at Restaurant Elzguerona. This place came highly recommended, and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant is nestled in a beautiful setting, surrounded by lush greenery. The menu featured traditional Moroccan dishes made with fresh, local ingredients. I opted for a tagine with vegetables and medicinal plants grown on-site – a true farm-to-table experience. The flavors were incredible, a testament to the region's rich culinary heritage.

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, we made our way to Hôtel Restaurant Azro for dinner. The restaurant offered a tranquil retreat with exquisite dining options. I savored every bite, reflecting on the day's adventures. The warmth of the Moroccan hospitality, combined with the stunning surroundings, made for a truly unforgettable experience.

It’s amazing how much you can pack into one day. From panoramic views to aromatic gardens and delicious cuisine, Ourika Valley has continued to deliver magic at every turn. I am already looking forward to tomorrow, when we plan to visit Ourika Lodge and Ourika Oufla. I've heard great things about both locations, and I'm excited to see what new adventures await.

And maybe, just maybe, we'll find some time to check out SECRET ROOM MARRAKECH in the evening. A girl can dream, right?

As I sit here, writing this blog post, I can't help but feel a sense of gratitude. This trip with my friends has been such a wonderful escape from the everyday. It's a reminder that there's so much beauty and wonder in the world, just waiting to be discovered. And who knows, maybe I'll even bring a little bit of that Moroccan magic back with me to Berlin.

P.S. I almost forgot! Today is Saturday, and I read somewhere that traditional music is very much part of everyday life in Morocco, most especially in August when weddings are commonplace. I'll keep my ears open and let you know if I hear any celebratory tunes!
