Today, I embarked on a journey through time, a day dedicated to understanding the profound history etched into the very soul of Con Dao. It was a day of contrasts, moving from the depths of despair to the heights of reverence, a stark reminder of the resilience of the human spirit.

The day began with a hearty breakfast at The Secret Restaurant. The Secret Restaurant is nestled in a century-old villa with French Indochinese architecture. The menu masterfully blends Mediterranean cuisine with local specialties. The ambiance was peaceful, and it gave me time to prepare for the day ahead. I savored a delightful mix of Shakshuka eggs and a robust Vietnamese coffee, fueling up for a day of exploration and reflection.

My first destination was the infamous Côn Đảo Prison. As I approached, a palpable sense of sorrow washed over me.
