Family Adventure in the Tranquil Beauty of Paxos, Greece
Day 9: A Day of Coastal Charms and Culinary Delights in Paxos
Exploring Paxos's harbor, enjoying local cuisine, and soaking in the island's vibrant atmosphere. A perfect blend of relaxation and discovery.
Seaside Serenity and Sunset Suppers
Today was all about embracing the simple pleasures of Paxos. We started our day with the gentle lapping of waves and ended it with a sky ablaze with color. It's amazing how a change of scenery can be so inspiring. I felt a renewed sense of creativity and excitement, ready to capture every moment of this beautiful island with my words.
Our morning began in the most delightful way possible – with breakfast at Taverna Βασίλης in Loggos. Hans and Sofia were particularly excited, having heard whispers of their incredible pastries. The view was simply breathtaking. The taverna overlooks the small harbor Hafen ionische Insel, and the gentle sea breeze made our coffee taste even better. Sofia, of course, opted for a chocolate croissant, which she devoured with gusto, leaving a delightful chocolate smear across her cheek. Hans and I shared a traditional Greek yogurt with honey and walnuts, a perfect start to the day.

After breakfast, we decided to explore the area around the harbor. Loggos is such a charming village, with its colorful houses and narrow streets. We strolled along the waterfront, watching the local fishermen prepare their boats for the day. Sofia was fascinated by the colorful ropes and nets, and she peppered them with questions about what they were catching. I loved seeing her curiosity come alive. I remember when I was her age, exploring the markets of Penonomé with my grandmother, each new sight and smell a wondrous adventure.
Sometimes, the most beautiful days are the ones where you simply allow yourself to wander and discover.
Next on our list was finding the Kamienne zejście do morza, a stone path leading down to the sea. It was a bit of a hidden gem, tucked away from the main tourist areas. The path was steep and a little uneven, but the views were more than worth it. As we descended, the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea stretched out before us, sparkling in the sunlight. Sofia, ever the adventurous one, insisted on leading the way, her little hand firmly gripping mine.

Reaching the bottom, we found a secluded cove with crystal-clear water. It was the perfect spot for a morning swim. Hans and Sofia were in the water in seconds, splashing and laughing. I took my time, savoring the moment. The water was cool and refreshing, and the sun warmed my skin. I felt completely at peace, surrounded by the natural beauty of Paxos.
After our swim, we were ready for lunch. We chose 4 Seasons Restaurant, enticed by the promise of authentic Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. We weren't disappointed. We started with a selection of mezze, including tzatziki, hummus, and stuffed vine leaves. Sofia, surprisingly, loved the tzatziki, happily dipping her pita bread into the creamy yogurt sauce. For our main courses, Hans opted for grilled fish, while I chose a traditional moussaka. Sofia, of course, had her favorite – pasta with tomato sauce. Everything was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, and the staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel right at home. It reminded me of the small family-run restaurants in Panama, where the food is always made with love.

In the afternoon, we indulged in a little retail therapy. We stopped by Negozio Souvenir, a charming souvenir shop. Sofia was immediately drawn to the colorful array of toys and trinkets. She finally settled on a small, hand-painted ceramic turtle, a memento of our time in Paxos. I picked up a few postcards to send to friends and family back in Berlin. It’s always nice to share a little piece of our travels with them.

Before dinner, we decided to treat ourselves to a drink at FANIS bar. The bar had a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, with comfortable seating and a stunning view of the harbor. Hans and I ordered cocktails, while Sofia enjoyed a refreshing fruit juice. As we sipped our drinks, we watched the sun slowly sink below the horizon, painting the sky with vibrant hues of orange, pink, and purple. It was a magical moment, one that I will cherish forever.

For our final meal of the day, we ventured to Mongonissi Beach for dinner at Mongonissi Beach restaurant. The setting was idyllic, with tables set right on the sand, overlooking the calm, turquoise waters. The restaurant is known for Greek and Mediterranean dishes. We started with a Greek salad, followed by grilled tuna and pasta. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was simply perfect. Sofia loved playing in the sand between courses, building elaborate sandcastles that were quickly washed away by the gentle waves.

As we ate, we watched the stars begin to appear in the night sky. The sound of the waves, the warm sea breeze, and the delicious food created a sense of complete serenity. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
Tomorrow, we plan to explore Paralia Erimitis and Paralia Giannas. I’ve heard that Paralia Erimitis is particularly stunning, with its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters. I’m excited to see what adventures tomorrow will bring. Maybe we'll even pick up some breakfast supplies at the Paxos market before heading out.
Before heading back to our vacation rental, we took one last stroll along the beach. The night was quiet, and the only sound was the gentle lapping of the waves. I held Hans's hand tightly, feeling grateful for this amazing trip and for the opportunity to share it with my family. As we walked, I couldn't help but reflect on how much Paxos had captured my heart. Its natural beauty, its charming villages, and its warm and welcoming people had created an unforgettable experience. I knew that this was a place I would always remember, a place I would always long to return to.
Back at our rental, Sofia was already fast asleep, dreaming of sandcastles and sea turtles. Hans and I sat on the balcony, sipping a glass of local wine and talking about our day. We both agreed that Paxos was a truly special place, a hidden gem that had exceeded all of our expectations. As I looked out at the twinkling stars, I felt a sense of contentment and gratitude. This trip to Paxos was more than just a vacation; it was a chance to reconnect with my family, to discover new places, and to create memories that would last a lifetime. And as I drifted off to sleep, I knew that tomorrow would bring even more adventures, more discoveries, and more unforgettable moments in this beautiful corner of the world. We might even stop by Boudoir tomorrow, I saw they have a great selection of local crafts.
I am so grateful for these moments and cannot wait to share more of them with you.
Until tomorrow!
