Family Adventure in the Tranquil Beauty of Paxos, Greece
Day 10: Sun-Kissed Shores and Starry Nights: A Day of Pure Bliss in Paxos
Exploring Paxos's stunning beaches, savoring local flavors, and enjoying a magical evening. A perfect day of family bliss in Greece.
Chasing the Last Rays of Sunshine
Today was one of those days that just felt…perfect. You know, the kind where everything aligns, the sun shines just a bit brighter, and the laughter flows a little easier. It was our tenth day here in Paxos, and we wanted to make the most of every single moment. With just one day left, we were determined to soak up as much of this island paradise as possible.
Our day began, as many do here, with a visit to the local Paxos market for breakfast. I love wandering through the stalls, taking in the vibrant colors and the lively chatter of the vendors. We picked up some fresh fruit, yogurt, and crusty bread – a simple but satisfying start to our Saturday. Sofia, of course, was drawn to the sweetest-looking strawberries, and Hans couldn't resist the local honey. I grabbed some peaches, remembering my childhood summers in Penonomé, where the sweet, juicy fruit was always a staple.
With our bellies full, we set off to Paralia Erimitis. I had heard so much about this beach, formed after an earthquake in 2007, and its dramatic cliffs. The drive there was stunning, with olive groves stretching as far as the eye could see. As we approached, the view was simply breathtaking. The turquoise water, framed by towering cliffs, looked like something out of a movie. It's no wonder Erimitis is considered one of the most photographed beaches in Paxos! I made sure to pack my camera, because I knew I had to capture the stunning views.

We spent the morning swimming in the crystal-clear water and basking in the sun. Sofia was in her element, building sandcastles and splashing around with Hans. I took some time to simply sit and soak it all in, feeling grateful for this incredible family adventure. The water was so clear, you could see the fish darting around your feet. Even though the beach has only existed for a little over 15 years, it felt timeless, a perfect slice of paradise carved out by nature itself. I even managed to convince Hans to try some snorkeling with me, and we spotted some colorful fish near the rocks.
The best kind of day is one where you lose track of time and simply enjoy the moment.
After a few hours at Erimitis, we decided to explore another gem: Paralia Giannas. This beach, closer to Gaios, offered a different kind of beauty. It was smaller and more secluded, with calm, inviting waters. Sofia loved collecting pebbles along the shore, each one a unique treasure. We spent a relaxing afternoon swimming and playing, enjoying the tranquility of this hidden paradise.

For lunch, we headed to GENESIS Restaurant in Gaios. I had read rave reviews about their authentic Greek cuisine, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant had a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the staff made us feel right at home. We ordered a selection of dishes to share, including moussaka, souvlaki, and fresh seafood. Everything was bursting with flavor, and Sofia even tried a bit of everything, declaring the souvlaki her favorite. Hans and I shared a bottle of local wine, savoring the moment and the delicious food. It was the perfect way to refuel after a day of swimming and sunbathing. Apparently, the Genesis restaurant has a great view to the sea, but it was a bit too hot to sit outside, so we enjoyed the air conditioning instead.

After lunch, I couldn't resist a bit of shopping. We strolled through the streets of Gaios, popping into Boudoir, a local shop. I found a beautiful hand-painted scarf as a souvenir, and Sofia picked out a cute little trinket to remember our trip. It's always nice to support local businesses and take home a little piece of the place we've visited.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Le Rocher Bar in Loggos. This quaint stone bar, nestled in a recently renovated century-old building, had a magical seaside terrace. We ordered some cocktails and enjoyed the stunning views of the Ionian Sea. Sofia sipped on a smoothie, while Hans and I savored our drinks, watching the sky transform into a canvas of vibrant colors. The atmosphere was relaxed and cozy, and it was the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day.

For dinner, we chose Volcano restaurant, also in Gaios. The name intrigued us, and we were curious to see what it had to offer. The restaurant had a lovely terrace with views of the harbor, and the menu featured traditional Greek cuisine with a modern twist. We started with some delicious appetizers, including tzatziki and saganaki, and then moved on to the main courses. I had the grilled octopus, which was cooked to perfection, while Hans opted for the lamb chops. Sofia, of course, ordered her favorite – pasta with tomato sauce. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. It was the perfect way to end our day of exploration and relaxation. We considered getting ice cream, since some reviews rave about Volcano's ice cream, but we were too full from dinner.

As we walked back to our vacation rental, the stars were out in full force. The night sky in Paxos is simply incredible, far from the light pollution of Berlin. We stopped for a moment to admire the constellations, feeling a sense of peace and contentment. It was a magical end to a perfect day.
Tomorrow is our last day here, and we plan to visit Galazies Spilies, the Blue Caves. I'm already excited to see these natural wonders up close. We’ll have breakfast at Cafe Aveois, grab lunch at Paxos Burger House (Sofia will be thrilled!), and then a final dinner at Thymari Restaurant Paxos. I want to soak up every last bit of this island paradise before we head back to Berlin.
This trip has been such a wonderful experience for our family. It's been a chance to reconnect, explore new places, and create lasting memories. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to share these adventures with Hans and Sofia. As we prepare to leave Paxos, I know that we'll carry a piece of this island with us, a reminder of the simple joys of life and the importance of family.
Even though I forgot my sunglasses and travel adapter, this trip has been close to perfect. I am already looking forward to coming back to Paxos in the future.
