Today was another day of exploration in the enchanting Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. Leaving behind the echoing silence of the caves for a day, Jean-Pierre and I ventured into the heart of the park to discover its other hidden gems. It was a day of contrasts – from observing rescued wildlife to immersing ourselves in the vibrant landscapes of HaVa Valley.

Our morning began with a hearty breakfast at Phong Nha Family Restaurant.
Fuelled up, we set off to explore the natural beauty that lay ahead. I must admit, after weeks of indulging in Vietnamese cuisine, I was craving something familiar. I was hoping to find a taste of home, perhaps a comforting Malagasy dish reimagined with local ingredients. But for now, Vietnamese delicacies would more than suffice. We started our day with a visit to the Núi Đôi Semiwild Enclosure, a sanctuary dedicated to rehabilitating animals before their release back into the wild.

The HaVa Valley offers many activities. I was tempted to try the zipline, which stretches across the valley, offering breathtaking views. Jean-Pierre, ever the adventurer, was particularly excited about this prospect. However, we decided to take it easy and enjoy a leisurely kayak ride along the river. Paddling through the calm waters, surrounded by the stunning scenery, was incredibly peaceful. We stopped at Vịnh Sỏi Vàng (Golden Pebble Bay), a picturesque spot along the riverbank with smooth, sun-kissed stones, perfect for taking photos.

As the day wore on, we found ourselves drawn to the serene atmosphere of the valley. We sat by the riverbank, listening to the gentle flow of the water and watching the clouds drift by. It was a moment of pure tranquility, a chance to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature. As someone who appreciates plant-based cuisine, I was delighted to find a variety of flavorful dishes to choose from. I opted for the tomato tofu, while Jean-Pierre chose the tofu with eggplant. Both dishes were bursting with flavor, showcasing the fresh, local ingredients. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, with friendly staff and a cozy ambiance. It was the perfect place to relax and refuel after a day of adventure. The vegan options were clearly labelled. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. It was a satisfying culinary experience that left us feeling content and energized.

As evening approached, we decided to treat ourselves to a seafood dinner at Nhà Hàng Hải Sản Nhật Phong 3. Although this restaurant is actually located in Nha Trang, we found a similar one in Phong Nha. This vibrant seafood restaurant offered a wide array of fresh catches, prepared with authentic Vietnamese flavors. We indulged in a feast of grilled fish, prawns, and squid, savoring the taste of the sea. The restaurant had a lively ambiance, with locals and tourists mingling and enjoying the delicious food. It was a fitting end to a day of exploration, a chance to celebrate the flavors of Vietnam and the beauty of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. The seafood was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were vibrant and authentic.

To cap off the evening, we decided to visit Dubai Pub Phong Nha for a relaxing drink. This cozy bar offered a unique blend of local culture and international flair, making it a perfect spot for unwinding and socializing. The atmosphere was vibrant, with friendly staff and a welcoming ambiance. We enjoyed a couple of local beers, chatting with fellow travelers and sharing stories of our adventures. The pub's rustic design, warm lighting, and comfortable seating created an inviting space to linger and enjoy the evening. It was a delightful way to end a day of exploration, a chance to reflect on the beauty of Phong Nha and the memories we had created. Sipping on a local beer, surrounded by the sounds of laughter and conversation, I felt a sense of contentment wash over me. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
