Exploring the Blue Pearl of Morocco: A Romantic Getaway
Day 10: Farewell, Chefchaouen: A Blue Dream Comes to an End
Reflecting on our final day in Chefchaouen, Morocco, filled with artisan treasures, vibrant squares, and unforgettable flavors.
A Fond Farewell to the Blue Pearl
As our ten-day Moroccan adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the captivating beauty and unique experiences Chefchaouen has offered. Today, Lena and I embarked on a final exploration of this blue-washed city, soaking in its artistic charm and savoring its culinary delights. It’s hard to believe our time here is already over, but the memories we’ve made will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
The morning began with a delightful breakfast at Cremeri Elmaataoui. This café has become a favorite of mine during our stay. We sat upstairs, enjoying the view of Chefchaouen while sipping on avocado juice with fresh fruit. It was the perfect way to start our last day, feeling refreshed and ready for a final adventure in the blue city.

Our first stop was the Ensemble d'artisanat complexe, a place brimming with the artistic soul of Chefchaouen. Here, local artisans showcase their talents, offering a wide array of handmade goods. I was particularly drawn to the intricate woodwork and vibrant textiles. Lena, with her keen eye for design, admired the hand-painted ceramics, each piece telling a unique story. We spent a good hour wandering through the stalls, chatting with the artisans, and learning about their craft. It's amazing to see how much artistry is still alive and well in this region.

The beauty of Chefchaouen lies not just in its blue-washed walls, but in the vibrant culture and artistic spirit of its people.
Next, we strolled over to Place El Haouta, a picturesque square that truly captures the essence of Chefchaouen. The square, with its blue-tiled buildings, classic arches, and iron grills, is a photographer's dream. The name Hawta, meaning surrounded or walled in, perfectly describes the intimate feel of this charming spot. We sat by the four-sided fountain, watching locals and tourists alike, all enjoying the square's lively atmosphere. Lena captured some stunning photos, especially with the warm hues of the sunset illuminating the background. It's a place where you can simply relax, soak in the surroundings, and appreciate the unique beauty of Chefchaouen.

For lunch, we decided on Chez Foad, a restaurant known for its authentic Moroccan dishes. We shared a tagine, savoring the rich flavors and aromatic spices that define Moroccan cuisine. It was a satisfying meal, providing a taste of the local culinary heritage. The restaurant's cozy atmosphere and friendly service added to the experience, making it a perfect midday stop.

In the afternoon, we ventured to Hibart Souvenirs Shop, eager to find a few mementos to take home. The shop was a treasure trove of local crafts, from traditional textiles to unique trinkets. Lena found a beautiful rug with geometric patterns, while I picked up a decorative tile to add to my collection. The shop's staff was incredibly helpful, sharing the stories behind each item and making our shopping experience all the more enjoyable. It’s these personal interactions that truly enrich our travels.

As the day began to wind down, we treated ourselves to dinner at Restaurant Triana. This spot came highly recommended, and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant offers a blend of traditional Moroccan and Mediterranean cuisines, with a menu that caters to all tastes. We started with a seafood salad, followed by a lamb tagine that was slow-cooked to perfection. The flavors were exquisite, and the portions were generous. The restaurant also had a great selection of Moroccan wines, which we paired with our meal. The ambiance was calm and inviting, making it a perfect place to reflect on our journey.

Before heading back to Hotel Dar Mounir for our final night, we took one last stroll through the medina. The blue streets, illuminated by the soft glow of streetlights, seemed even more magical than before. We stopped to listen to a local musician playing traditional Moroccan music, letting the melodies wash over us. It was a poignant moment, a perfect ending to our time in Chefchaouen.

Reflecting on our ten days in Morocco, I'm filled with gratitude for the experiences we've had. Chefchaouen, with its blue-washed streets and artistic charm, has captured our hearts. From exploring the Ensemble d'artisanat complexe to relaxing in Place El Haouta, every moment has been a treasure. The food has been incredible, the people have been welcoming, and the memories we've made will last a lifetime.
As we prepare to leave tomorrow, I can't help but feel a tinge of sadness. But I know that this is not goodbye, but rather a see you later. Morocco, and Chefchaouen in particular, has a way of drawing you back in. I'm already dreaming of our next adventure here, whenever that may be.
Tomorrow, we'll be heading back to Tangier to catch our flight back to Frankfurt. It's going to be a long day of travel, but I'm looking forward to sharing our experiences with friends and family back in Heidelberg. And of course, I can't wait to start planning our next adventure!
For now, though, I'll cherish these final moments in the Blue Pearl, a place that has truly captured my imagination and left an indelible mark on my soul.
Safe travels, everyone, and until next time!
