Today was a fantastic exploration of the Douro Valley, filled with incredible views and fascinating insights into local traditions. It's amazing how much this region has to offer, from its stunning landscapes to its rich culinary heritage. I was excited to see what the day would bring as we set out to discover more of what makes this valley so special.

Our day started with a delightful breakfast at Casa do Arco by Douro Exclusive. The selection of fresh pastries, fruits, and juice was the perfect way to kick off our adventures. The B&B was charming, and the views from there were already promising for the day ahead. It’s moments like these, enjoying local flavors with friends, that really make a trip memorable. Lena would have loved this place; I'll have to bring her back sometime. I made a mental note to check if they had rooms with mountain views next time.

Fueled up and ready, we headed to our first stop: the Carrascalinho Lookout. The drive itself was an experience, winding through the scenic roads of the Douro International Natural Park. As we approached the lookout, the landscape opened up to reveal a breathtaking panorama. The steep cliffs and deep valleys created a dramatic effect, and I could see why this spot is known for its stunning views. Apparently, it's also a prime location for birdwatching, with various species of eagles and vultures soaring overhead. I tried to spot some, but my bird identification skills are definitely lacking. Still, the view alone was worth the trip. The fresh air and the sense of being surrounded by such raw natural beauty was invigorating. I made sure to take tons of photos, though I know they won’t truly capture the feeling of being there in person.

Next on our itinerary was D'Origem - Museu do Azeite, the Olive Oil Museum. Nestled in the village of Casal de Loivos, the museum offered a fascinating look into the world of olive oil production. I learned about the traditional methods used by early farmers and the modern innovations in the industry. The interactive exhibits were engaging, and I particularly enjoyed the informative displays on the different types of olive oils. Of course, the highlight was the olive oil tasting, where we sampled various locally produced oils. The knowledgeable staff shared insights into the unique flavors and health benefits of each one. I never knew there could be so much to learn about olive oil! The museum itself had stunning views of the Douro River, adding to the experience. Plus, I picked up a few bottles to take back home – I’m already planning a bruschetta night with Lena.

Lunch was at Douro à Mesa in Peso da Régua, a restaurant recommended for its authentic Portuguese cuisine. We shared a variety of dishes, including tasty tamboril (monkfish), grilled meat, and flavorful soup. Everything was well-prepared and delicious, and the staff were friendly and attentive. It was a great spot to relax and refuel after a busy morning of sightseeing. The restaurant had a quiet ambiance, making it a perfect place to chat and enjoy the company of friends. I appreciated the chance to savor traditional Portuguese flavors and reflect on our adventures so far. We even ran into a couple of fellow travelers who were just as enthusiastic about the Douro Valley as we were.

As the afternoon waned, we decided to check out Petiscaria Douro Bar for a relaxing evening. This bar is known for its traditional Portuguese snacks and affordable prices. We enjoyed some local petiscos (tapas) while taking in the views of the Douro River. The atmosphere was laid-back and welcoming, making it a great spot to unwind after a day of exploring. I tried the Bifana, a pork sandwich that paired perfectly with Bermester Tinto. It was the ideal way to cap off a day filled with amazing sights and experiences. I’m starting to understand why the Douro Valley is such a beloved destination.

For dinner, we headed to Val Moreira, a restaurant associated with the Vila Galé Douro Vineyards hotel. The restaurant offered breathtaking views of the Douro River and the Tedo River. The modern layout and calming ambiance made it a perfect setting for a relaxing dinner. The menu featured regional Portuguese cuisine prepared with modern techniques, and the dishes were beautifully presented. We tried several specialties, and each one was a culinary delight. The service was impeccable, adding to the overall experience. It was a memorable meal that showcased the best of Douro Valley’s gastronomy. I made a mental note to try their white wine (Branco) next time, as it came highly recommended.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit Miradouro de Valença do Douro for more stunning views and Quinta do Panascal - Fonseca Porto. I’m particularly excited about the Quinta do Panascal, as I’ve heard great things about their port wine. And maybe, just maybe, a visit to Lust Porto nightclub. It’s going to be another day of exploration and discovery in this beautiful region. I'm also hoping to find a light rain jacket, since I forgot to pack one and the weather forecast isn't looking too promising.

Before heading back to Gaia Residence, we made a final stop at Petiscaria Douro Bar. The night was young, and the vibe at the bar was too good to pass up. We enjoyed a few more local drinks and reflected on the day’s adventures. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with incredible sights, tastes, and experiences. As I sipped my drink, I felt grateful for the opportunity to explore this beautiful region with friends. The Douro Valley has truly captured my heart, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
