Today was a symphony of flavors and sights, a true immersion into the heart of Iceland's Westfjords. From charming cafes to dramatic coastlines, every moment felt like a discovery. David and I reveled in the unique experiences that this remote corner of the world had to offer, creating memories that I know we will cherish long after we've returned to Stratford.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Kaffi Norðurfjörður. The cozy cafe was a welcome respite from the crisp morning air. We enjoyed strong Icelandic coffee and freshly baked pastries, fueling up for the day's adventures. The cafe itself had a charming, local feel, and it was clear that it was a popular spot for both residents and travelers alike. I couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and community as we sat there, sipping our coffee and planning our day. It's these simple moments, connecting with the local culture, that truly enrich a travel experience.

After breakfast, we set our sights on Drangajökull, the prominent glacier in the region. While a close encounter wasn't on the cards for today, the mere sight of its icy expanse on the horizon was breathtaking. The air was crisp and clean, and the silence was broken only by the occasional cry of a seabird. The name Húsið means the house and it certainly lived up to its name, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere. David and I indulged in their famous seafood soup, a creamy and flavorful concoction brimming with fresh catches of the day. It was the perfect meal to warm us up from the inside out, and the cozy ambiance of the restaurant made it all the more enjoyable. I was particularly charmed by the ceramic gallery showcasing handmade cups and vases.

As the afternoon waned, we ventured to Verbudin for a quick drink. This bar, located in the reception of Berjaya Hofn Hotel, offered a cozy spot to relax and unwind after a day of exploration. We enjoyed a happy hour special, savoring local beers and reflecting on the day's adventures. The atmosphere was lively and convivial, and we struck up a conversation with a couple of fellow travelers, sharing stories and tips about our respective journeys. It's these unexpected connections that often make travel so rewarding, reminding us that we're all part of a larger global community.

Dinner was at Einarshusid, a guesthouse and restaurant in Bolungarvík. This historic building, dating back to the turn of the 20th century, exuded character and charm. The restaurant is known for its pizzas and traditional Icelandic dishes. We opted for the latter, savoring the simple yet delicious flavors of the local cuisine. As we ate, we learned about the history of the house, which had been lovingly restored to its former glory. It was fascinating to hear stories of the people who had lived and worked there over the years, and to imagine what life must have been like in this remote fishing village a century ago.

After dinner, we took a stroll through Bolungarvík, soaking in the tranquil atmosphere of the village. The air was still and crisp, and the stars twinkled brightly in the night sky. I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace and contentment, knowing that we were creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Reflecting on today, I'm struck by how much the Westfjords have to offer. It's not just about the dramatic landscapes and the stunning natural beauty, but also about the warmth and hospitality of the people, the delicious local cuisine, and the sense of connection to a rich cultural heritage. It's a place that truly nourishes the soul, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to experience it with David by my side.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit Stórurðarlundur and Drangajökull útsýnisstaður [Lookout point] for more breathtaking views. We'll also be stopping by Gjafaland [Gift Land, a shop] and trying out Hamraborg ehf for breakfast, Café Riis Hólmavík for lunch, and Hópið for dinner. I'm excited to see what new adventures and discoveries await us as we continue our journey through this remarkable region. I'm also glad I remembered to pack my travel journal. I almost forgot it!

I'm also slightly regretting that I forgot to bring a solar charger for my phone. I'll have to be extra careful with my battery usage tomorrow. And maybe I should have packed more memory cards for my camera. I'm taking so many photos, I'm afraid I'll run out of space! But these are minor inconveniences, and I won't let them detract from my enjoyment of this incredible trip.

As I drift off to sleep tonight, I'm filled with a sense of gratitude and anticipation. I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience the beauty of Iceland with David, and I'm excited to see what tomorrow brings. The Westfjords have captured my heart, and I know that I'll be dreaming of their dramatic landscapes and charming villages long after I've left.
