Today was a day of embracing the serene beauty of Alta Badia, a journey filled with vibrant colors, panoramic vistas, and the simple joys of exploring this stunning region. It's amazing how a change of scenery can bring a fresh perspective, reminding me of the simple pleasures in life, something I often miss amidst the hustle of Toronto.

My day began with a delightful breakfast at Glam's Alta Badia in Corvara. The reviews online were right; the staff were incredibly kind, and the food was delicious. Sipping on a lovely coffee in the sunshine was the perfect way to start the day. It reminded me of mornings back in the Maldives, enjoying the sunrise with Aishath and Ibrahim. I made a mental note to try their speciality bombardino next time.

Fueled by a hearty breakfast, I set out to explore the Lärchenweg, or the Larch Trail. The trail starts in the village center of St. Kassian. As the name suggests, this path meanders through enchanting larch forests. October is the perfect time to hike this trail, as the needles of the larches turn a vibrant gold and orange, painting the landscape in warm hues. It was truly a sight to behold. The crisp mountain air and the crunch of leaves underfoot made for a refreshing and invigorating experience. I made sure to bring my camera, capturing the panoramic views of the Dolomites. The trail also focuses on the flora, fauna, and geology of the area, with informative panels providing insights into the natural wonders around me.

The best view comes after the hardest climb.

The Lärchenweg, or “Tru di lersc” as it's known in Ladin, offered some stunning views. Traditional wooden fences, stone walls and an old water mill added to the charm of the landscape. The trail wasn't too strenuous, reaching a maximum altitude of 1,740 meters. It was a leisurely walk, allowing me to soak in the beauty of the surroundings. The path winds along the edge of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, offering glimpses of the park's incredible landscapes. It reminded me of the importance of preserving these natural spaces for future generations, a cause close to my heart.

After the hike, I made my way to a viewpoint, hoping to capture more of Alta Badia's beauty. I wasn't disappointed. The view was simply breathtaking. It's moments like these that make me appreciate the beauty of our planet and the importance of sustainable living. The crisp air, the stunning peaks, it all felt so pure and untouched. I thought about Aishath and Ibrahim and how much they would have loved to see this. I imagined pointing out the different peaks to Ibrahim, telling him stories of the mountains, maybe even sparking an interest in geology.

For lunch, I had made a reservation at Ristorante Porcino. Nestled in the Badia Hill Hotel, this fine dining establishment is named after the prized porcini mushroom. Chef Marco Verginer creates a creative tasting menu that blends Alpine flavors with Mediterranean finesse. The restaurant itself is refined, with panoramic mountain views that added to the dining experience. It was a delightful culinary journey, a fusion of local and international flavors that left me feeling satisfied and inspired. It was a reminder of how food can be an art form, a way to connect with a culture and a place.

After lunch, I decided to indulge in some local shopping. Tito Speck - Il Maso dello Speck caught my eye. This shop offers a variety of local specialties, including cured meats, sausages, and of course, speck. It was a great opportunity to sample some of the region's culinary heritage and pick up some treats to take back home. I purchased some 'Tito Speck Riserva', made with pork from Italy. I'm planning to bring it back to Toronto for Aishath and Ibrahim to enjoy. I can already imagine us sharing it with friends, telling them stories of my adventures in Alta Badia.

As the day drew to a close, I headed to the Piz Boè Alpine Lounge for dinner. Located at 2,200 meters, this alpine hut is easily accessible by the Boè gondola. The lounge offers a breathtaking ambiance, with stylish furnishings and stunning panoramic views of the Dolomites. From the large windows, I could admire the surrounding peaks, feeling as if I could touch them. It was the perfect way to end the day, savoring delicious food while taking in the beauty of the mountains.
