Today was a day of immersing ourselves in the unique landscapes and warm hospitality of the Dades Valley. From the fascinating rock formations of Monkey Fingers to the delicious local cuisine and the charming shops, every moment was a discovery. It’s amazing how much this region has to offer, and I’m so glad I get to experience it with my family.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Café Restaurant ROOFTOP ATLAS DADES. The rooftop setting offered a stunning panoramic view of the valley as the sun began to paint the sky with hues of orange and pink. Sipping on traditional Moroccan mint tea while enjoying fresh bread and local honey was the perfect way to start the day. The crisp morning air and the breathtaking scenery made it a truly memorable experience. Sophie was particularly taken with the view, snapping photos to share with her friends back home. Hans, ever the pragmatist, was more interested in the intricacies of the local architecture. I simply enjoyed the moment, feeling grateful for the opportunity to share such a beautiful experience with my family.

After breakfast, we set off to explore the famed Monkey Fingers viewpoint. The name, of course, comes from the unique rock formations that resemble the curled knuckles of a monkey's hand. Sophie was immediately captivated, exclaiming that it looked like something out of a science fiction film. I found myself marveling at the geological forces that had shaped this landscape over millennia. Hans, with his carpenter's eye, was intrigued by the textures and patterns in the rock, commenting on the effects of wind and erosion. We spent a good hour simply taking in the view, snapping photos, and discussing the fascinating history of the region. Sophie, always adventurous, tried the local Berber pizza, a savory flatbread filled with vegetables and herbs. Hans, a man of simple tastes, opted for grilled lamb, declaring it the best he had ever tasted. I savored every bite, appreciating the freshness of the ingredients and the skill of the chef. Sophie immediately gravitated towards a display of colorful scarves, trying on several before settling on a vibrant blue one. Hans, surprisingly, took an interest in a collection of antique Berber daggers, examining each one with a discerning eye. I found myself drawn to a set of hand-painted ceramic bowls, each one a unique work of art. We spent a pleasant hour browsing the shop, chatting with the friendly owner, and learning about the local crafts. The meal was a culinary masterpiece, a multi-course feast of Moroccan delicacies. We started with a selection of traditional salads, followed by a hearty tagine and a delicate pastry for dessert. The food was exquisite, each dish a testament to the skill and creativity of the chef. The service was impeccable, the staff attentive and friendly, making us feel like honored guests. It was the perfect end to a perfect day, a moment of shared indulgence and relaxation.

Tomorrow, we plan to delve deeper into the Dades Valley, exploring the Dadès Vallei and embarking on a randonnée (hike). I am particularly excited about the hike, as I've heard it offers stunning views of the valley and a chance to discover hidden gems off the beaten path. Hans is looking forward to seeing more of the local architecture, while Sophie is eager to capture more photos of the dramatic landscapes. We also noticed there’s a Night Club, so perhaps Sophie will want to check that out. I am looking forward to immersing ourselves in the natural beauty and cultural richness of this remarkable region. It’s moments like these that make travel so rewarding, creating lasting memories and strengthening the bonds of family. The warm September weather, with average highs around 83°F (28°C) and lows of 58°F (14°C), makes it ideal for exploring the outdoors.

As I sit here now, writing in my travel journal, I am filled with a sense of contentment and gratitude. Today was a day of discovery, a day of connection, a day of pure joy. The Dades Valley has captured my heart, and I know that the memories we have made here will stay with us long after we have returned home.
