A Day of Cultural Immersion in Hoi An
Today was a day dedicated to diving deeper into the cultural heart of Hoi An. After several days of exploring the culinary scene and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of our villa, Hans and I, along with the kids, were eager to explore the town's artistic and historical treasures. It was a day filled with vibrant colors, ancient stories, and the gentle warmth of the local people.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Nhà hàng Cơm Linh. The restaurant is conveniently located in the ancient town, making it easy for visitors to move around without having to call a car or use personal transportation. The space isn't too big, but it is clean and airy. We enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes, with a variety of options available. I decided to try the Cơm gà, Hoi An chicken rice, which had a nice fragrant of chicken rice, tender chicken and a great mix of sauce. Hans tried Phở vịt quay, a duck noodle soup, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The kids enjoyed Bánh xèo, which has special dipping sauces and fresh vegetables. Energized, we set off to explore the town.

Our first stop was the Rehahn Gallery. I've always been fascinated by photography that captures the essence of a culture, and Rehahn's work does just that. The gallery was home to the permanent exhibition of Réhahn's Precious Heritage Collection. The collection unveils the rich cultural tapestry of the ethnic tribes. The museum showcases the 54+ ethnic cultures of Vietnam through large scale portraits, stories and examples of traditional tribal costumes. Réhahn's portraits show not just the art but stories behind emotional faces.

To walk through the Precious Heritage Museum is to embark on a visual and emotional journey through the diverse cultures that make Vietnam so unique.
The kids were captivated by the vibrant portraits and the stories behind them. It was a wonderful way to introduce them to the diverse cultures within Vietnam and to appreciate the beauty of human connection. The Precious Heritage Collection gave us a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore the extraordinary beauty of the diverse ethnic communities in Vietnam. The collection showed understanding and respect. I'd recommend visiting to get a good introduction to this important aspect of Vietnamese society and culture.
Next on our list was the Museum of Sa Huynh Culture. This museum offered a fascinating glimpse into the Sa Huynh culture, which existed over 2,000 years ago. The free admission made it an excellent option for a quick, enriching stop. The museum exhibits an excellent collection of more than 900 artifacts of the Sa Huynh culture. We explored ancient Vietnamese history with unique jewelry, pottery, and burial jars from the Sa Huynh culture. I was most impressed with the burial jars on the second floor. The architecture itself offers a pleasant experience. The second-floor balconies provide a unique perspective, overlooking the bustling streets of Hoi An and offering glimpses of the nearby river. The unique artifacts and pleasant balcony views offer a rewarding experience for history enthusiasts.

After immersing ourselves in history, we decided to visit the Quan Cong Temple. This temple, also known as Ong Hoi An Pagoda, is one of the famous cultural and spiritual architectural works in Hoi An. It's a place to worship Quan Van Truong, a talented and loyal general famous during the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history. The temple was built in the mid-17th century by both Vietnamese people and Chinese people. The architecture of Quan Cong Temple uses sustainable baked bricks, along with glazed ceramic tile roofs, creating an ancient and solemn look. The kids were intrigued by the intricate details and the serene atmosphere of the temple. It was a moment of quiet reflection amidst the bustling town.

As the afternoon sun began to dip, we made our way to the Hội An Lantern Company. I've always been drawn to the beauty of lanterns, and Hoi An is renowned for its vibrant lantern culture. The lanterns are beautifully made with a selection of magnificent fabrics, particularly highlighting the wonderful glow of silk fabric whether lit or unlit. We couldn't resist purchasing a few to bring back home as souvenirs. The kids were especially excited about choosing their own colors and designs. The store offers a vast choice of colours and styles. The professional experience from ordering to delivery was appreciated.

For lunch, we ventured to MIX Greek Restaurant Hoi An. It was a delightful change of pace from the local cuisine we had been enjoying. The restaurant commands a perfect location in Hoi An's Ancient Town. The Hubs' beef was melt in the mouth tender and each bite was a delightful mix of imported Australian beef, spicy feta and pepper sauce. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki for my main and the ladies sampled a range of other dishes including Kitchen's Shrimp and Greek Country Style. Everything was great and no body left hungry.

As evening approached, we decided to have dinner at Restaurant & Cafe Tuấn Rich Flavor of Hoi An Vietnamese Familly Restaurant. The restaurant serves the most delicious types of Italian pizza. We enjoyed delicious pizza and a beautiful countryside.

As we strolled through the lantern-lit streets, Hoi An transformed into a magical wonderland. The warm glow of the lanterns created a mesmerizing ambiance, and the kids were enchanted by the colorful displays. The Hoi An Lantern Festival happens every month when there's a full moon. Candles are lit within paper lanterns which are then released into the sky or set to float on the river. The event creates a beautiful calming atmosphere. It was the perfect ending to a day filled with cultural exploration and family bonding.
Tomorrow marks the end of our trip, and we plan to make the most of it by visiting Rừng Dừa Bảy Mẫu Hội An - Làng Quê, Ancient House, and Cao Dai Temple of Hoi An. We'll also be sure to enjoy one last delicious meal at Hoi An Golden Kitchen Restaurant & Coffee. And perhaps, Hans and I will sneak away for a nightcap at Woop Woop Bar.
Looking back on today, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunity to share these experiences with my family. Hoi An has a way of captivating your heart and soul, and I know that the memories we've created here will stay with us for a lifetime. I am so glad that I was able to share a piece of my heritage with my husband and children.
I'm already looking forward to our next adventure, wherever it may take us. Until then, I'll cherish the moments we've shared in this beautiful ancient town.
