A Fond Farewell to Chefchaouen

As the sun sets on my final day in Chefchaouen, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey this blue city has offered. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the serene atmosphere and the unique charm that permeates every corner of this Moroccan gem. It's hard to believe that thirteen days have flown by so quickly, filled with exploration, laughter, and unforgettable memories. As I prepare to leave, I want to share the highlights of my last day and my overall impressions of this magical place.

This morning, after a delightful breakfast at Café Sindibad, I decided to soak in the last moments of Chefchaouen's spiritual side. The café was bustling with locals and tourists alike, all eager to start their day with traditional Moroccan flavors. I savored the *ftour beldi*, a local breakfast of goat cheese, eggs, and olive oil, while enjoying the beautiful view from the terrace. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploration.

Our first stop was the Bouzafer Mosque, also known as the Spanish Mosque. Perched on a hill overlooking the city, the mosque offered a panoramic view of Chefchaouen bathed in the soft morning light. Although the mosque itself is not open to the public, the grounds provided a perfect spot for reflection and taking in the scenery. The crisp mountain air and the quiet solitude were a welcome contrast to the bustling medina. It's a bit of a hike to get up there, but the view is more than worth the effort.

The beauty of Chefchaouen lies not just in its blue walls, but in the warmth of its people and the serenity of its atmosphere.

Next, we ventured to the Grand Mosque of Chefchaouen, located in the heart of Place Outa el Hammam. This historic mosque, with its unique octagonal minaret, is a central landmark in the city. While non-Muslims are not allowed to enter, I admired its architecture from the outside and learned about its history. The mosque dates back to the 15th century, with its minaret believed to have been added in the late 17th century. It has been restored several times, most recently in 2006, preserving its historical and cultural significance. As I stood there, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the rich history that permeates every stone of this ancient city.

For lunch, we chose Restaurant Morisco, known for its local dishes and lively atmosphere. I indulged in a traditional tagine, savoring the complex flavors of the slow-cooked meat and vegetables. My friends opted for some barbecue dishes, and we all agreed that the food was delicious and satisfying. The restaurant’s location in Outa El Hammam Square made it a perfect spot for people-watching and enjoying the vibrant energy of Chefchaouen.

After lunch, I wanted to find a special souvenir to remember my time in Chefchaouen. We visited Work shop Noureddine afia, a local artisan shop recommended for its unique crafts. I spent quite a bit of time browsing the intricate handmade items, finally settling on a beautiful ceramic piece painted in the iconic blue hues of the city. It felt like the perfect memento to take back home to Berlin, a little piece of Chefchaouen to brighten up my apartment. My husband, Hans, will surely appreciate the craftsmanship, and it will remind us both of this incredible adventure.

As the day drew to a close, we chose Restaurant Dar El Salam for our farewell dinner. The restaurant’s cozy ambiance and traditional Moroccan decor created a warm and inviting atmosphere. We shared a variety of dishes, reminiscing about our favorite moments from the past thirteen days. From exploring the Rif Mountains to getting lost in the blue-washed alleyways, every experience had been a treasure. I am so glad that my friends and I chose Chefchaouen as our travel destination. It was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Berlin, a chance to reconnect with nature and immerse ourselves in a different culture.

Looking back on my time in Chefchaouen, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences I've had and the memories I've made. The city's unique beauty, combined with the warmth and hospitality of its people, has left an indelible mark on my heart. I’m already thinking of how to incorporate some of the design elements I’ve seen here into our apartment in Berlin – maybe a splash of that iconic blue in our living room!

As I prepare to leave tomorrow, I know that a part of me will always remain in this blue city. Chefchaouen is more than just a travel destination; it’s an experience that nourishes the soul and awakens the senses. I encourage anyone seeking a unique and enriching travel experience to visit this magical place. You won’t be disappointed. And who knows, maybe someday Hans and I will return together to explore even more of what Morocco has to offer.

For now, it’s time to say goodbye to the Blue Pearl. Until next time, Chefchaouen!

I am going to miss Chefchaouen. I will miss the way the light filters through the blue alleyways, the smell of spices in the markets, and the sound of the call to prayer echoing through the mountains. But most of all, I will miss the feeling of peace and tranquility that I found in this magical place.

My journey in Chefchaouen may be coming to an end, but the memories will last a lifetime. I am grateful for the opportunity to have experienced this unique and beautiful city, and I look forward to sharing my adventures with others through my blog. As I pack my bags and prepare for my journey back to Berlin, I carry with me a piece of Chefchaouen, a reminder of the beauty and wonder that exists in the world.

I'm sure Hans is eager to hear all about my adventures, and I can't wait to share the stories and experiences with him. Perhaps next time, he can join me on this journey, and we can explore the wonders of Morocco together. Until then, I will cherish the memories of my time in Chefchaouen and look forward to the next adventure that awaits.

And so, with a heavy heart but a grateful spirit, I bid farewell to Chefchaouen, the Blue Pearl of Morocco. Thank you for the memories, the lessons, and the inspiration. Until we meet again.

Before I forget, I should probably check if I've packed everything. I wouldn't want to leave behind any of the treasures I've collected along the way. I’m sure I have everything, but I should probably double-check. It would be just my luck to forget something important.

Well, that's all for now. I hope you enjoyed reading about my final day in Chefchaouen. Stay tuned for more travel adventures to come!

P.S. I almost forgot! I need to pick up a few postcards to send to my family back in Vietnam. They've been eagerly following my journey, and I want to share a little piece of Chefchaouen with them. I'm sure they'll love the blue hues and the exotic scenes. It's the least I can do to show them how much I appreciate their support and love.
