A Day Among Giants

Today was nothing short of spectacular – a full-day tour into the heart of the Atlas Mountains. Leaving the vibrant buzz of Marrakech behind, I was eager to experience the serene beauty and rugged landscapes I’d only ever seen in pictures. I knew this would be more than just a sightseeing trip; it was a chance to connect with the soul of Morocco.


The day began, as most do here, with a hearty breakfast at the TUI BLUE Medina Gardens – Adults Only – All Inclusive. Fuelling up for a day of exploration is essential, and the hotel certainly doesn't disappoint with its offerings. After breakfast, my friends and I met our guide, ready to embark on our Atlas Mountain adventure. The drive itself was an experience, watching the landscape transform from the flat plains around Marrakech to the rising foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

Our first real taste of the mountains came as we wound our way through valleys dotted with Berber villages. The houses, built from the very earth they stood on, blended seamlessly into the landscape. It struck me how these communities have managed to preserve their traditions and way of life for centuries, seemingly untouched by the rapid changes of the modern world.

For lunch, we stopped at Un déjeuner a Marrakech. The restaurant offered a delightful respite with a menu that provided a welcome change from the tagines and couscous we had been enjoying. The French-inspired dishes were delicious, and the relaxed atmosphere made it a perfect midday break. It was a great opportunity to reflect on the morning's sights and recharge for the afternoon.

After lunch, we continued our journey deeper into the mountains. The air grew crisper, and the views became even more dramatic. We stopped at several viewpoints to take in the panoramic vistas, each one more breathtaking than the last. I found myself thinking about Lena and Sofia, wishing they could share this moment with me. I made a mental note to plan a family trip back here someday, perhaps when Sofia is a little older and can appreciate the hiking.


As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, we made our way back towards Marrakech. But the day wasn't over yet. Tonight, we had reservations at Chez Ali - Fantasia Marrakech, a place I’d heard so much about. The experience began with a welcoming ceremony. The dinner was served in traditional Berber tents, creating an authentic and immersive atmosphere. The food was plentiful and delicious, featuring classic Moroccan dishes. But the real highlight was the Fantasia show – a dazzling spectacle of horsemanship, music, and dance. The riders, acrobats, and dancers put on a performance that was both thrilling and captivating, a perfect end to an already incredible day.

After the exhilarating show at Chez Ali, we decided to unwind at the GARDEN LOUNGE. It was the perfect spot to relax and share our favorite moments from the day. Sipping on mint tea under the starlit sky, we recounted the stunning views, the delicious food, and the vibrant energy of the Fantasia show. It was a fitting end to a day that had taken us from the heights of the Atlas Mountains to the heart of Moroccan culture.

Tomorrow, we're planning to visit the Ourika Valley and its waterfalls. I’m looking forward to another day of exploration and natural beauty, and I’m especially excited to see the waterfalls. I’ve heard they’re a sight to behold, and I’m eager to capture their beauty through my lens. I'm also looking forward to trying Dar Moha for lunch and Pepe Nero for dinner, hoping to discover even more culinary delights.


As I drift off to sleep, I'm filled with a sense of gratitude for the experiences of today. The Atlas Mountains have left an indelible mark on my soul, and I know that this is just the beginning of my love affair with Morocco. This trip is about more than just seeing the sights; it's about connecting with the people, the culture, and the land. And so far, it's been an incredible journey.


I am also reminded that I need to buy a power adapter since I forgot mine. I will try to find one tomorrow before we leave for Ourika Valley.
