A Day of Discovery on Paros
Today was a day of exploration and wonder, a true immersion into the heart of Paros. From hidden caves echoing with pirate tales to a historic lighthouse standing sentinel over the Aegean, and finally, a journey through Byzantine artistry, Paros revealed its many layers. It's moments like these that remind me why I started Evendo, to share these enriching experiences with all of you.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Ouzeri Apostolis. The sea was calm, the air was fresh, and the promise of adventure hung in the air as thick as the aroma of freshly baked bread. I savored a traditional Greek yogurt with honey, while David opted for the fried fish, and Jasmine, ever the food adventurer, went for the grilled octopus. It was the perfect way to fuel up for the day ahead.

First on our itinerary was the enigmatic Pirate’s Cave. The drive there was an adventure in itself, winding through the island's rugged terrain. We parked near Kolymbithres beach and took a short hike down a small dirt path towards the cliffside. The anticipation grew with each step, and the view that unfolded before us was simply breathtaking. The cave, carved into the dramatic cliffs, revealed crystal-clear turquoise waters. The whole family was in awe.

According to local lore, this cave once served as a hideout for pirates who roamed the Aegean Sea. Jasmine was particularly thrilled by the tales of hidden treasures and daring seafarers. We spent a good hour exploring the cave, taking photos, and simply soaking in the magical atmosphere. The light filtering through the entrance created an ethereal glow, highlighting the intricate formations shaped by centuries of erosion. It was a truly unforgettable experience, one that transported us back in time to an era of swashbuckling adventures.

Next, we set our sights on the Agios Fokas Lighthouse. Situated in the Krotiri area, opposite Parikia, the lighthouse stands as a testament to the island's rich maritime history. The drive was scenic, offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. The road leading to the lighthouse was a bit rough, but the stunning vistas made it all worthwhile.

Built in 1867 by the French Lighthouse Company, the Agios Fokas Lighthouse has a 6-meter tower and a focal height of 11 meters. While the keeper’s house next to it is now abandoned and somewhat deteriorated, the lighthouse itself remains a beacon of beauty. We walked around the area, taking in the views and imagining the countless sailors who had relied on this guiding light over the years. Jasmine, who is developing a keen interest in photography, found the picturesque chapel nearby to be a charming backdrop for her shots.
After our historical and scenic adventures, it was time for lunch. We headed to Deck Bar Restaurant, known for its stunning sunset views and Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant’s design was breathtaking, with multiple decks offering panoramic views of the sea. We indulged in some exquisite dishes, starting with bread accompanied by butter and honey. David raved about the calamari, claiming it was the best he had ever tasted, while Jasmine and I shared the sea bass carpaccio, which was truly exceptional. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making our dining experience even more enjoyable.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we decided to indulge in a bit of shopping at White In Paros. The shop offered a curated selection of jewelry, clothing, and accessories, perfect for finding unique souvenirs. I picked up a beautiful bracelet, while Jasmine found a stylish summer dress that she couldn't resist. David, ever practical, opted for a comfortable linen shirt.

We wandered through the three rooms, each showcasing different aspects of Byzantine religious art and culture. The first room displayed large icons collected from churches and monasteries across Paros. The second room featured painted wooden carvings and decorative religious silverware. The last room housed religious artwork and a large carved model of the Ekatontapiliani church. It was a fascinating journey through history, offering a glimpse into the rich Byzantine heritage of Paros.
As the day drew to a close, we made our way to DIONYSOS Garden Restaurant for dinner. The garden setting was enchanting, with lush greenery and vibrant flowers creating a cozy and romantic atmosphere. We savored traditional Greek and Mediterranean dishes made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The moussaka was divine, and the grilled seafood was cooked to perfection. The attentive service and charming ambiance made it a perfect end to a perfect day.
