Sun, Sand, and Sculpture: A Day of Coastal Exploration
Today’s adventure took Maximilian and me to the glamorous coast of Forte dei Marmi and the artistically rich shores of Pietrasanta. Leaving Lucca, we were eager to experience the blend of luxury and culture that this part of Tuscany offers. From the high-end boutiques to the captivating art galleries, every moment was a delightful exploration of the senses.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Ristorante Per 21 in Lucca [i]. It’s become one of our favorite spots, and I always appreciate how Gabriele and Julia make us feel so welcome. Maximilian opted for the sea bass, while I enjoyed the lobster pasta – both were impeccably prepared and bursting with flavor. Fuelled up, we set off towards the coast, excited for our day of seaside discoveries.

Sometimes, the best travel days are those where you allow yourself to be led by the beauty of the moment, discovering hidden gems along the way.

Forte dei Marmi: A Playground for the Stylish

Our first stop was Forte dei Marmi, a town synonymous with luxury and relaxation. As we strolled along the promenade, I couldn't help but notice the elegant Liberty-style buildings and grand villas that lined the streets. The weather in August is wonderfully warm, with temperatures hovering around 26°C, perfect for a day by the sea. We were lucky to have clear, sunny skies, though I did remember I had forgotten to pack our umbrella.

We spent some time exploring the high-end boutiques, window shopping at Fendi, Gucci, and Prada. While I appreciate beautiful clothes, I find myself more drawn to the local artisans and unique finds. Maximilian, ever the tech enthusiast, was fascinated by the blend of tradition and modernity in the town [TravelDestinationReason].

Next, we visited the iconic Forte dei Marmi Fortress, also known as the Lorenese Fort. Built in the late 16th century, it stands as a testament to the town's rich history. The fortress now hosts events and exhibitions, offering a glimpse into the local culture. We climbed to the top for panoramic views of the town and the coastline, capturing some stunning photos. I imagined what it must have been like centuries ago, guarding the coast from invaders.

Before leaving Forte dei Marmi, we took a leisurely bike ride along the waterfront promenade. It’s a popular activity, and we enjoyed soaking in the vibrant atmosphere, watching families play on the beach and locals chatting at cafes. The sea breeze was refreshing, and it was a perfect way to appreciate the town's relaxed vibe.

Seacoast of Pietrasanta: Where Art Meets the Sea

Our next destination was the Seacoast of Pietrasanta, a short drive from Forte dei Marmi. Known as Little Athens, Pietrasanta has a rich artistic heritage, attracting sculptors and artists for centuries. As we approached, we could already sense the creative energy that permeates the town.

We started our exploration at Piazza Duomo, the heart of Pietrasanta. The square is home to the Duomo di Pietrasanta, also known as the Cathedral of San Martino, a stunning architectural gem dating back to the 13th century. Its marble facade and intricate details are truly impressive. The square also houses the Clock Tower, the Archaeological Museum, and the Museo dei Bozzetti, making it a cultural hub.

Wandering through the cobblestone streets, we discovered numerous art galleries and artisan workshops. I was particularly drawn to a small studio where a sculptor was working on a marble statue. The precision and skill involved were mesmerizing. Maximilian, always keen to learn, engaged the artist in a conversation about his techniques and the history of marble sculpting in the region.

We strolled along the Seacoast of Pietrasanta, taking in the beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea. The beaches here are known for their clean, golden sand and clear waters. Although we didn't have time for a swim, we enjoyed walking along the shore, breathing in the salty air. The sea temperature in August is around 26°C, making it perfect for a dip.

As the afternoon waned, we decided to have an early dinner in Lucca at Trattoria da Giulio. This restaurant is known for its authentic Luccan cuisine and charming atmosphere. We shared a delicious plate of tortelli Lucchesi, a local pasta dish filled with meat and spices. The flavors were rich and comforting, a perfect end to our coastal adventure.

Evening in Lucca: A Perfect Finale

Back in Lucca, we decided to experience the local nightlife at Ciclo Divino, a popular bar known for its relaxed atmosphere and tasty tapas. We enjoyed some local wine and shared a plate of crostini, soaking in the lively ambiance. It was a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploration. Maximilian enjoyed a glass of prosecco while I savored a plate of their delicious crostini.

For dinner we chose Ristorante DES ARTS for dinner. The restaurant is conveniently located near Piazza San Giusto. I decided to try the ravioli. Maximilian opted for the carpaccio. For dessert, we shared a tiramisu. The staff was very friendly and the service was great.

As we walked back to Albergo San Martino, hand in hand, I reflected on the day’s adventures. Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta offer a unique blend of luxury, culture, and natural beauty. From the high-end boutiques to the captivating art galleries, every moment was a delightful exploration of the senses. I am so glad Maximilian and I got to experience it together [TravelWith].

Tomorrow, we're planning a trip to Ponte Sospeso di San Marcello Pistoiese and Devil's Bridge [Itinerary of Tomorrow]. I've heard so many fascinating stories about these places, and I'm eager to see them for myself [Itinerary of Tomorrow]. Until then, buona notte from Lucca!
