Exploring Nakhon Ratchasima's diverse attractions: From the Wild West charm of Farm Chokchai to the ancient wonders at the Fossil Museum.
A Day of Discovery
Today was a delightful mix of rural charm and prehistoric wonders here in Nakhon Ratchasima. It's amazing how much variety this region offers, from expansive farms to fascinating glimpses into the distant past. Nang and Ananda were particularly excited about today's itinerary, and their enthusiasm made the experiences even more special.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Tapestry Chinese Restaurant. The dim sum was the perfect way to start a busy day of exploring. We savored the roasted duck and rice noodles, reminiscing about our favorite Chinese restaurants back in Montreal. It's always comforting to find familiar flavors in a new place. After breakfast, we set off for Farm Chokchai, which was about an hour's drive away.

Embracing the Cowboy Spirit at Farm Chokchai
As we approached Farm Chokchai, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. Having grown up in Thailand, I never imagined I’d find a slice of the Wild West right here in Nakhon Ratchasima. The farm is vast, and the landscape is dotted with green pastures and grazing cows. It's quite a sight! We started our adventure with a tour of the dairy farm. Ananda was particularly fascinated by the process of milking cows, and he even got a chance to try it himself. He was a natural.
Nang enjoyed learning about the different breeds of cows and the sustainable farming practices employed at Chokchai. She's always been passionate about sustainable living, so she appreciated the farm's commitment to responsible agriculture. I must admit, I was impressed by the scale of the operation and the dedication of the staff. We watched a live cowboy show, which was surprisingly entertaining. The performers were skilled, and the show was filled with stunts and horsemanship that left us in awe.
The blend of Thai hospitality and Western charm created an experience that was both unique and unforgettable.
After the show, we indulged in some delicious ice cream made from fresh milk. It was the perfect treat on a warm day. We also explored the flower fields and took some memorable family photos. Before leaving Farm Chokchai, we had lunch at Chokchai Steakhouse. The Australian Wagyu beef was cooked to perfection, and the Kurobuta pork chops were equally delightful. It was a satisfying meal that capped off a wonderful morning at the farm. The farm truly offers a fully integrated experience, blending agriculture, education, and entertainment seamlessly. It's a must-visit destination for families and nature lovers alike.

Stepping Back in Time at the Korat Fossil Museum
In the afternoon, we journeyed to the Korat Fossil Museum, eager to delve into the region's prehistoric past. The museum is located a short drive from the city center and is home to an impressive collection of fossils, including dinosaur skeletons, ancient marine life, and petrified wood. As we entered the museum, we were greeted by life-sized replicas of dinosaurs that once roamed the area. Ananda was thrilled, and his eyes lit up with excitement. He's always been fascinated by dinosaurs, so this was a dream come true for him.
The museum is divided into themed halls, each showcasing different aspects of the region's geological history. We explored the Petrified Wood Zone, marveling at the stunning examples of ancient trees transformed into stone over millions of years. Nang was particularly interested in the Ancient Elephant Hall, which featured skeletal remains and reconstructions of prehistoric elephants. She found it fascinating to learn about the species that once inhabited this area.
I was captivated by the Dinosaur Zone, which brought the Mesozoic era to life with detailed exhibits and interactive displays. It was incredible to see the fossils of Siamraptor and Sirindhorna, species discovered in the Khok Kruat Formation. The museum does an excellent job of making paleontology accessible and engaging for visitors of all ages. We spent several hours exploring the museum, learning about the processes of fossilization and the history of life on Earth. It was an educational and enriching experience for the whole family.
