Saturday Adventures in Essaouira
Another day, another adventure in Essaouira! Today was all about soaking in the local culture, zipping around on some unique rides, and, of course, indulging in the delicious food this coastal town has to offer. It’s amazing how quickly you can fall in love with a place, and Essaouira has definitely captured my heart.
The day started with a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Sayef. Elodie and I were eager to try some authentic Moroccan cuisine, and this place came highly recommended. We weren't disappointed! The warm atmosphere made us feel right at home. I opted for the traditional Moroccan breakfast, a delightful spread of bread, olives, and local honey. Élodie, ever the pastry chef, couldn't resist the freshly baked croissants. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploring.

After breakfast, we decided to explore the medina. The plan was to visit Synagogue Slat Lkahal Mogador, but on the way, we stumbled upon D'ici et D'ailleurs, a charming little shop that was impossible to resist.

The shop was a treasure trove of local crafts and souvenirs. I ended up buying a beautiful hand-painted ceramic bowl, perfect for serving tagine back home in Montreal. Élodie found some unique jewelry made from argan seeds, a lovely reminder of our time in Essaouira. It's these little discoveries that make traveling so special.
Wandering through the vibrant streets of Essaouira, I realized that every corner holds a new story, a new flavor, and a new adventure.
Finally, we made our way to Synagogue Slat Lkahal Mogador. Tucked away in the heart of the medina, this historic synagogue offered a serene escape from the bustling streets. It was built in the 19th century and reflects the rich traditions of the Jewish community that once thrived here. I found myself reflecting on the diverse cultural tapestry of Essaouira. The synagogue stands as a testament to the city's inclusive past.

After immersing ourselves in history and culture, it was time for some fun! We headed over to Lou's Rides, a local company that offers electric moped tours of the surrounding countryside. Neither of us had ever ridden an electric moped before, but the staff were incredibly helpful and patient, giving us a thorough introduction to the bikes and the planned route. Soon, we were zipping along the coastal roads, the wind in our hair and the sun on our faces.

These vintage electric bikes are eco-friendly and require no license. We chose the 'Essaouira Express discovery'. The ride was exhilarating, and the scenery was simply breathtaking. We passed through quaint Berber villages, lush argan forests, and stunning viewpoints overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It was a fantastic way to see a different side of Essaouira, away from the hustle and bustle of the medina.
By lunchtime, we had worked up quite an appetite. We decided to try Silvestro, an Italian restaurant in the medina. I know, I know, Italian food in Morocco? But after days of tagines and couscous (as delicious as they are), we were craving something different. Silvestro did not disappoint ! The restaurant had a cozy, family-run vibe, and the aroma of freshly baked pizza filled the air. I ordered a classic Margherita pizza, while Élodie opted for the spaghetti carbonara. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, and the portions were generous. It was a comforting taste of home, with a Moroccan twist.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Sam’s Restaurant for dinner. This restaurant is known for its fresh seafood and lively atmosphere, and it was the perfect spot to end our day. We started with grilled sardines, a local specialty, followed by a seafood tagine that was bursting with flavor. The tagine was a medley of fish, shrimp, and mussels, simmered in a rich tomato sauce with fragrant spices. It was the perfect way to savor the taste of the Atlantic.

The restaurant was buzzing with locals and tourists alike, all enjoying the delicious food and vibrant ambiance. Live music filled the air, adding to the festive atmosphere. As I sat there, surrounded by good food, good music, and good company, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this incredible experience.
Essaouira truly comes alive in the evening. As we strolled back to Le Medina Essaouira Thalassa Sea and Spa MGallery, the city was bathed in a warm, golden light. The sounds of laughter and music drifted from the cafes and restaurants, creating a magical atmosphere. I couldn't help but think about tomorrow's itinerary, which includes a visit to the Golf De Mogador North Course and L'Horloge d'Essaouira. I'm also looking forward to unwinding at Le BAR Celone.
