A Day of Fairways, History, and Flavors
Today was a delightful mix of leisure, exploration, and indulgence here in Essaouira. I embraced the Moroccan sunshine, enjoyed a round of golf, wandered through historical landmarks, and savored the local cuisine. It was a day that perfectly captured the essence of this coastal town, blending relaxation with cultural immersion.
The day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Baghdad & Cooking Class. Fatima's warm welcome and the smell of freshly baked bread made it a perfect start. The restaurant offered an authentic Moroccan dining experience. The food was remarkably fresh, and it was evident that quality ingredients were used in their traditional tagines. Élodie would have loved this place, with its cozy and authentic ambiance.

Tee Time at Golf De Mogador North Course
After breakfast, I headed to Golf De Mogador North Course for a round of golf. The course was designed by Gary Player and is known as one of the most beautiful golf courses in Morocco. The fairways wind through a hilly forest area, offering wide spaces for play. Although there weren't any water hazards, the well-maintained greens and the stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean made it a memorable experience. It was a bit challenging to secure a tee time, but the beautiful conditions of the North Course were worth the effort. The refreshing Atlantic breezes made playing comfortable even in August.

Sometimes, the most memorable days are those where you seamlessly blend activity with cultural appreciation, creating a tapestry of experiences that linger long after you've left.
Stepping Back in Time at L'Horloge d'Essaouira
Next on the agenda was a visit to L'Horloge d'Essaouira, a historical landmark in the heart of the city. This iconic clock tower, originally part of the city's defensive structures, has become a beloved symbol of Essaouira. The clock mechanism, imported from Paris in the 18th century, reflects a blend of local and European influences. The idea to install a clock in the medina dates back to the 1920s. The tower itself, called Bab Magana, was built in 1764 in the Cherifian style. The clock's construction was completed in 1928 and inaugurated by Marshal Lyautey. Wandering around the clock tower, I observed that it serves as a meeting point for locals and travelers alike.

A Seaside Lunch at Chez Rachid
For lunch, I ventured to Chez Rachid, a local restaurant known for its seafood. The restaurant offers African and Mediterranean cuisines. I enjoyed a flavorful tagine and couscous, accompanied by Moroccan tea. The service was quick, and the staff was friendly, making the experience all the more enjoyable. The restaurant was bustling with locals, which is always a good sign. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the decor was cute, adding to the overall charm.

Evening Drinks at Le BAR Celone
As the sun began to set, I made my way to Le BAR Celone for an evening drink. This hidden gem, located at the end of the promenade, offers beautiful views of the beach from its rooftop terrace. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere was lively. I enjoyed a refreshing cocktail while taking in the stunning ocean view. The bar is known for its fresh food and inviting ambiance. It's a great spot for unwinding after a day of exploration.

Dinner at La Rose Du Sud
For dinner, I chose La Rose Du Sud, a restaurant near Zaytouna known for its traditional Moroccan food. The restaurant captures the essence of Moroccan culture with its vibrant decor and inviting ambiance. I had a delicious tagine, savoring the flavors of locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant is known for its exceptional service and flavorful offerings. The skilled chefs are passionate about presenting meals that tell a story of Morocco's rich culinary heritage.

Essaouira in August offers pleasant weather, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 27°C. The winds can be strong, creating ideal conditions for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Although the crowds can be larger in August due to European and Moroccan school holidays, the city maintains its laid-back atmosphere.
As I reflect on today's adventures, I'm reminded of how much this coastal town has to offer. Tomorrow, I plan to visit Ranch de Diabat and Harbour Scala, continuing my exploration of Essaouira's rich history and natural beauty. I might even pick up a souvenir at Histoire de Filles before heading off. I am looking forward to sharing more of my experiences with you all!
