A Fond Farewell

As our Moroccan adventure draws to a close, Liam and I spent our final day in the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen soaking in every last bit of its unique charm. It's hard to believe our 12 days here are already up. This trip has been a delightful escape from our Dublin routine, a chance to immerse ourselves in a different culture, and of course, an opportunity to add more stamps to our passports. Today was all about revisiting our favorite spots and discovering a few hidden gems we'd missed along the way.

Our day began, as many others have, with a delightful breakfast at Patisserie Pain Chaouen. I couldn't resist getting one last almond croissant; they truly are a must-try here. Liam, ever the traditionalist, opted for a strong Moroccan coffee. The staff there is so friendly, always making us feel welcome. It's these small, consistent experiences that make a place memorable. We sat outside, enjoying the crisp morning air and watching the town slowly come to life. It was the perfect start to our last day in Chefchaouen.

With our appetites satisfied, we set out to explore Plaza España (pinsapar). The views from there were absolutely breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the town nestled against the Rif Mountains. The pinsapar trees added a touch of green to the predominantly blue landscape, creating a stunning contrast. We spent a good hour simply taking in the scenery and snapping some final photos to remember this magical place. It was so peaceful and serene, a perfect spot for contemplation.

The best journey always takes us home, even when we didn't know we were lost.

Next on our list was a visit to the المدينة القديمة الاثرية (Old Medina). We wandered through its labyrinthine streets, admiring the blue-washed buildings and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. Even after several days of exploration, we still managed to stumble upon new and intriguing corners. The Medina was bustling with activity, locals going about their daily routines, and tourists eager to capture the perfect photo. We stopped by a few shops, picking up some last-minute souvenirs for our families back home. Liam, of course, haggled for the best prices, a skill he's honed over the years. The Medina's blend of history, culture, and commerce is truly captivating.

For lunch, we decided to try Restaurant Bar Chaouen. The reviews were mixed, but we were in the mood for something different. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere, and the menu offered a mix of Mediterranean, Moroccan, and Arabic cuisines. Liam ordered a tagine, while I opted for a Mediterranean salad. The food was tasty, and the service was friendly. It was a pleasant experience overall, and we enjoyed the change of pace.

In the late afternoon, we found ourselves at lyajor tiskit, a local bar. We decided to stop for a drink and soak in the local atmosphere. It was a cozy spot, filled with locals chatting and laughing. We ordered some mint tea and simply enjoyed the moment. It was a great way to unwind after a day of exploring.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Chez Hicham for dinner. We had heard great things about their Moroccan cuisine, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant had a warm and inviting ambiance, and the staff were incredibly welcoming. Liam ordered a traditional tagine, while I decided to try the Moroccan chicken salad. Both dishes were bursting with flavor, a perfect culinary conclusion to our trip. We savored every bite, reminiscing about our favorite moments from the past 12 days.

Reflecting on our time in Chefchaouen, I'm struck by how much this little blue city has captured our hearts. From the stunning landscapes to the warm hospitality of the locals, every moment has been a treasure. I am so glad that we decided to visit Chefchaouen and experience its beauty.

Tomorrow, we head back to Tangier for our flight to Dublin. While I'm looking forward to returning to our cozy apartment and catching up with friends, I know I'll miss the vibrant colors, exotic aromas, and the slower pace of life here in Morocco. This trip has been a wonderful reminder to embrace new experiences and appreciate the beauty of our world. I am already looking forward to planning our next adventure with Liam. Maybe we will go to Ireland next time, and Liam can show me around his home country.

Until next time, Chefchaouen, thank you for the memories. I'm sure we'll meet again.

Safe travels!
