Herat Citadel: A Living Testament to Afghan History

The Citadel of Herat, or Arg-e Herat, is a formidable fort located in the heart of Herat, Afghanistan [7]. Its origins are traced back to 330 BC when Alexander the Great arrived in the region [7, 9]. Throughout its 2,300-year history, the citadel has been a crucial strategic point, serving as headquarters for numerous empires [7].
