Discover more about Foley Railroad Museum & Model Train Exhibit

Step back in time at the Foley Railroad Museum, located in the heart of Heritage Park within the charming 1909 Louisville & Nashville Railroad depot. This museum isn't just a collection of artifacts; it's a vibrant testament to the history and spirit of Foley and Baldwin County. The railroad played a major role in the growth of the area. The museum building itself is an artifact. The original depot was built in 1905, but it was destroyed by a fire. The current depot was erected in 1909 and served as the town's hub for over 60 years. In the 1970s, train service to Foley was discontinued, and the depot was slated for demolition. Fortunately, a local businessman, John Snook, recognized the depot's historical significance and moved it to Magnolia Springs. In 1991, he deeded the building back to the City of Foley, and in 1995, it was returned to its original location and restored.Inside, you'll discover a treasure trove of railroad memorabilia, photographs, tools, and exhibits that document Foley's history and the railroad's vital role in the area's development. A highlight is the large O-scale model train exhibit, crafted by the Foley Caboose Club, which meticulously recreates scenes of Foley in the 1940s, including iconic landmarks like the Foley Hotel, Crosby's Drugstore, and the Holmes Hospital.Outside the museum, climb aboard a real 1940 L & N diesel locomotive engine, boxcar, and caboose. The museum is located near the junction of U.S. 59 and U.S. 98.
