Discover more about Cheaha Scenic Lookout

The Cheaha Scenic Lookout provides sweeping views from Cheaha Mountain, the highest point in Alabama at 2,407 feet above sea level. The name 'Cheaha' comes from the Muscogee Creek word meaning 'high place'. Located within Cheaha State Park, the lookout is easily accessible via a short, paved walkway from the parking area, making it suitable for visitors of all ages and abilities. Cheaha State Park, established in 1933, is Alabama's oldest continuously operating state park. Many of the park's iconic structures, including the Bunker Tower, Bald Rock Lodge, and hiking trails, were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) between 1933 and 1939. These historic structures blend seamlessly into the natural environment. The CCC Museum, located in the base of the Bunker Tower, honors the men who shaped the park. Visitors can explore the area's unique geological formations, characterized by ancient granite boulders and wind-sculpted trees. The mountain marks the southernmost point of the Appalachian Mountain chain. In addition to the scenic lookout, Cheaha State Park offers a variety of activities, including hiking, camping, swimming, and fishing. Popular hiking trails include the Bald Rock Boardwalk Trail, a wheelchair-accessible path leading to a panoramic overlook, and the Pulpit Rock Trail. The Talladega National Forest surrounds Cheaha State Park, offering even more opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Pinhoti National Recreation Trail, Alabama's longest walking path, crosses the Cheaha Wilderness.
