History of Spring Hill

The Spring and the Hill

Spring Hill developed on higher ground northwest of Mobile, around a natural spring whose water and elevated setting distinguished the area from the lower-lying city. The name described the landscape rather than a formal founding scheme, and the district remained outside Mobile’s dense historic core as the city expanded.
