This beautifully preserved courthouse, dating back to 1903, served as the model for the fictional Maycomb County Courthouse in Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Although the movie wasn't filmed here, the set designer meticulously recreated the courtroom after spending time in Monroeville.Visitors can explore the courtroom, complete with a balcony, witness chair, judge's bench, and tables for the attorneys. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2021.

Walking
The Old Courthouse Museum is in downtown Monroeville on North Alabama Avenue. If you're already downtown, near the Monroeville/Monroe County Chamber of Commerce or the Atticus Finch Monument, it's an easy walk. Head north on Alabama Avenue, and the courthouse will be on your left. The walk is short, allowing you to enjoy Monroeville's literary district.
Driving
If driving from outside downtown Monroeville, head toward the town square. The museum is at 31 N Alabama Ave. Parking is usually available on the streets around the square, but it can be limited during peak season or local events. Free parking can often be found within a block or two of the courthouse. There are no parking costs.
