Lions Fair Park, located in Selma, Alabama, is a central gathering place for community events and home to the annual Central Alabama Fair. The Selma Lions Club organized the first Dallas County Industrial Show in 1951 and has been a driving force behind the park's development. The Central Alabama Fair, a highlight of the park, has evolved over the years. The first fair was held in 1956 in a tent at Bloch Park. After a couple of rainy seasons, the fair moved to the National Guard Armory in 1958, where it was held for many years. In 1968, the Lions Club purchased land adjacent to the Armory, and in 1995, they acquired the old Armory building, which led to the entire property becoming known as Lions Fair Park. Today, the Central Alabama Fair offers a range of attractions, including carnival rides, food booths, and community exhibits. The fair is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and its role in bringing the community together. Proceeds from the fair support the Selma Lions Club's charitable activities, such as providing eye exams and glasses for those in need. The park also hosts other events throughout the year, contributing to Selma's community life.
