The Bottle Creek Indian Mounds Trailhead offers a remarkable opportunity to explore Southeastern Native American history and the unique natural environment of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Located near Axis, Alabama, this trailhead provides access to the second-largest Indian mound complex in Alabama, created by the Mississippian culture between AD 1250 and 1500. The site includes eighteen mounds, canals, and residential areas. Visitors can witness prehistoric earthworks surrounded by lush wetlands and diverse wildlife. The landscape features towering trees typical of Southern forests, with saw palmetto and hardwoods shading the walking path. Birdsong and the hum of delta insects add to the peaceful atmosphere.
