    While there is no direct public transportation to Dauphin Island, you can take a bus from Mobile to Fort Morgan and then ride the Mobile Bay Ferry to Dauphin Island. From the ferry landing on Dauphin Island, it is a short drive or taxi ride to Fort Gaines. The Mobile Bay Ferry departs every hour and a half, and a one-way trip costs $7.50 per pedestrian and $23 for a vehicle. Check the ferry schedule in advance, especially during peak season.
