Syri i Kaltër, meaning "Blue Eye" in Albanian, is a captivating water spring and natural phenomenon located near Muzinë in southern Albania. This popular tourist attraction is named for its resemblance to a human eye, with a deep blue center surrounded by lighter, greenish-blue waters. The spring is the source of the Bistricë River and boasts a discharge rate of 18,400 liters per second. The Blue Eye is believed to be over 50 meters deep, though divers have only descended to that depth, and the actual depth remains a mystery. The water temperature remains a chilly 10°C (50°F) year-round. Surrounded by lush greenery, the area offers a tranquil escape and a chance to connect with nature. While swimming is officially prohibited to protect the natural area, some visitors brave the cold waters. To reach the Blue Eye, visitors typically drive or take a bus from Saranda or Gjirokaster. From the parking area, a scenic 20-30 minute walk along a paved road leads to the spring. Electric scooters are also available for rent near the parking lot. The site is open daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and has a small entrance fee.
