Public Transportation

To reach Ada e Bunës via public transport, take a bus from Shkodra to Velipojë. Buses depart frequently from Shkodra bus station; the ride takes approximately 30-45 minutes. From the Velipojë bus stop, walk towards the beach and ask locals for directions to the nearest boat station to Ada e Bunës. A boat ride costs about 300 Lek per person.

Car

If driving from Shkodra, take the SH1 highway towards Velipojë. Once in Velipojë, follow signs to the beach area. Ada e Bunës is accessible by a short boat ride from the mainland. Park in designated areas in Velipojë; parking fees range from 200-500 Lek.

Walking

If you are already in Velipojë, you can walk to Ada e Bunës. From the beach area, proceed along the coastline towards the coordinates 41.8755853, 19.3750012. This scenic walk will take you through beautiful landscapes, and it should take about 20 minutes to reach your destination. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated.

Ada e Bunës, also known as Buna Island, is situated where the Drin and Buna rivers converge near Shkodra, in northern Albania. This island is a natural reserve with ecological and historical significance. The island, formed in the 19th century from river sediments, separates the Buna River into two branches as it meets the Adriatic.Legend says a goddess protected the island from a king's conquest by creating storms and fog. Today, Ada e Bunës is known for its biodiversity, including aquatic and terrestrial plants, and is a habitat for migratory birds. It is part of the Lake Shkodra wetland, attracting tourists and researchers.Historically inhabited since ancient times, the island was a strategic point during the Roman and Byzantine eras and maintained its importance under Ottoman rule.
