Kepi i Rodonit, also known as Cape of Rodon or Cape of Skanderbeg, is a rocky peninsula jutting into the Adriatic Sea. This coastal gem is located north of Durrës and offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. The cape is named after Rodon, an Illyrian god of the sea. According to mythology, Rodon led this region between 146-150 BC and was praised by the Illyrians as a symbol of immortality. Kepi i Rodonit is also called “The Land of the Giants,” linked to the myth of Odysseus meeting the Cyclops. Rodoni Castle, constructed in 1463 by Skanderbeg, dominates the landscape. The castle offers a glimpse into Albania's rich history and provides panoramic views of the coast and surrounding areas. Much of the castle is now underwater, offering a unique snorkeling experience. Near the castle lies the Monastery of Saint Anthony, dating back to the 13th century. This architectural gem showcases Byzantine influences and provides a serene space for reflection. The church was renovated with the support of the European Union after being damaged in the 2019 earthquake. Inside the church, a double-headed eagle is painted on the lower central part of the eastern apse. The cape boasts pristine beaches with golden sands and clear waters, ideal for relaxation, swimming, and leisurely walks. The rugged cliffs and lush greenery create a picturesque setting for nature lovers and adventurers. Hiking trails offer panoramic views and a chance to connect with nature. During the summer, a tent hotel offers a close-to-nature experience on one of the beaches. During the communist era, Cape Rodon was heavily fortified, and remnants of concrete bunkers can still be seen.
