Discover more about Ura e Vjetër e Zabërzanit

Ura e Vjetër e Zabërzanit, also known as the Old Bridge of Zabërzan, is a captivating historical landmark nestled in the scenic landscape of Çorovodë, Albania. This ancient bridge once elegantly arched over the crystal-clear waters of the Osumi River, showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship of its builders. Constructed with local stone, the bridge served as a vital connection between communities and stood as a testament to the architectural prowess of the past. The bridge has an architectural style similar to the Gorica Bridge in Berat and was the largest bridge after Gorica along the Osumi River. According to one source, it was built around 1860 with contributions from local residents and the help of Banush Sevrani, a prominent fighter in Ali Pasha Tepelena's army, although this information may not be entirely accurate. It is believed that the bridge is older and dates back to the time of Ali Pasha's rule. Unfortunately, the bridge was blown up in 1940 during the Italo-Greek War by the Italians to prevent the Greeks from crossing to the other side of the Osumi. This was a painful event for the local residents, as the region was often used as a battleground. Today, only the ruins of the bridge remain, a poignant reminder of the region's turbulent history. Despite its ruined state, Ura e Vjetër e Zabërzanit continues to attract visitors with its serene environment, lush greenery, and panoramic vistas of the valley. It offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and immerse oneself in the beauty of the Albanian landscape.
