Discover more about Kanionet e Osumit

Osumi Canyon, or Kanioni i Osumit, is a 26-kilometer-long gorge in southern Albania, renowned as one of the Balkans' most spectacular natural attractions. Carved by the Osumi River over two to three million years, the canyon boasts towering cliffs that narrow to just 1.5 meters in some sections, while expanding up to 35 meters higher along the cliffs. These unique formations have led to evocative names like the Cathedral, the Eye, and the Demon's Door. The canyon's ecosystem thrives year-round, adorned with Mediterranean vegetation such as heath and briar, alongside numerous small caves created by natural forces. Spring is the ideal time to visit, as melting snow elevates the river's water levels, creating ideal conditions for rafting and showcasing the canyon's many waterfalls. During the summer, when water levels recede, river hiking expeditions allow visitors to explore the canyon's interior through swimming and trekking. Beyond its natural allure, Osumi Canyon holds cultural significance, intertwined with local legends and history. Nearby, the town of Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its well-preserved Ottoman architecture and is often called the 'City of a Thousand Windows'. Visitors can explore Berat's historic neighborhoods and landmarks like the Berat Castle, which offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
