Getting There

Walking

From the center of Berat, near the Gorica Bridge, walk uphill towards Berat Castle. Follow the road, Rruga Mihal Komnena, which winds its way up the hill. Once inside the castle grounds (entry fee 300 Lek from 9:00-18:00) , follow the signs to the Holy Trinity Church, a short walk up some zigzagging steps on the western side of the castle.

Taxis are readily available in Berat. A taxi from the city center to the entrance of Berat Castle typically costs around 500-800 Lek. From the castle entrance, it's a short walk to the Holy Trinity Church. Be aware that you will still need to pay the castle entrance fee of 300 Lek.

The Holy Trinity Church (Kisha e Shën Triadhës) is a remarkable example of Byzantine architecture, located within the historic Berat Castle. This medieval church, built in the 13th or 14th century, stands on a hill, offering picturesque views of Berat's iconic 'city of a thousand windows,' the Osumi River, and the surrounding landscape.The church features a classic cross-shaped plan with a dome, showcasing the intricate design and spatial organization characteristic of Byzantine architecture. Inside, visitors can observe two columns with reused capitals, believed to have been taken from classical ruins in the city. An inscription bearing the name of Andronicus Angelos Palaiologos, the governor of Berat from 1302 to 1326, suggests that he financially supported the church's construction.While the interior is not always accessible, the church's exterior is remarkably well-preserved, making it one of the most photogenic sites in Berat. The Holy Trinity Church is not only a religious monument but also a testament to the city's rich cultural and historical heritage.
