Ura e Goricës: Berat's Enduring Stone Bridge

Ura e Goricës, or the Gorica Bridge, stands as a testament to Berat's rich history and architectural ingenuity. Constructed in the 18th century during the Ottoman era, the bridge initially was made of wood, but was rebuilt with stone in 1780 under Ahmet Kurt Pasha. It links the old town with the Gorica neighborhood, which was traditionally inhabited by the Christian population.The bridge boasts an elegant design with seven arches, stretching 129.3 meters in length and 5.3 meters in width, and rising 10 meters above the Osum River. Its arches, ranging from 9 to 16.7 meters, give it a distinctive and captivating look. Throughout its history, the bridge has undergone several reconstructions, including a significant restoration in the 1920s and 1930s.Today, Ura e Goricës is a pedestrian bridge, offering stunning views of the Osum River and the surrounding hillside houses.
