Getting There

Driving

From Tirana, take the SH52 road west towards the coast. Follow signs for Kepi i Rodonit. The drive is approximately 1.5 hours. Note that the road can be rutted in places. You will have to walk the final 500 meters from the parking area to the castle. Parking near the castle entrance is available. Expect to pay a small entrance fee of around 300 Lek.
Public Transport

From Tirana, take a bus to Durrës. From Durrës, you can take a taxi to Cape Rodon, which is about an hour's drive. Alternatively, from Kurbin bus station, take a bus heading towards Durrës and ask the driver to stop at Cape of Rodon. From the bus stop, it's about a 15-minute walk to Rodoni Castle. Bus fare from Tirana to Durrës is approximately 150-200 Lek. A taxi from Durrës to the Cape of Rodon will cost approximately 6,000-8,000 Lek.

Rodoni Castle, or Kalaja e Rodonit, is a historical fortress located on the Cape of Rodon (Kepi i Rodonit), a rocky peninsula jutting into the Adriatic Sea. The castle was originally built by Skanderbeg, Albania's national hero, in the 15th century, sometime after the first Siege of Krujë around 1450. Its strategic location provided easy access to the sea and served as a crucial defense point against Ottoman invasions.Construction of the castle, also referred to as Skanderbeg Castle, began in 1450 and was completed around 1452, featuring 400-meter long walls and towers at each corner. Skanderbeg used the castle as a retreat during the Siege of Krujë in 1466, from where he and his family sailed to Brindisi. The castle was thought to be destroyed by Ottoman forces in 1467 but was later rebuilt by the Republic of Venice in 1500. Today, the castle's ruins consist of outer walls and a tower, some of which are submerged due to the corrosive action of the sea.Visitors to Rodoni Castle can explore the remains of this once-mighty fortress and enjoy panoramic views of the Adriatic coastline.
