Its name derives from the lead plates that originally covered its domes.The mosque's design features a grand courtyard with wide columns, a characteristic that distinguishes it from other mosques in Albania. Inside, visitors can admire elegant Islamic motifs and detailed calligraphy, reflecting the artistry of the Ottoman period. The mosque has withstood wars and natural disasters, with ongoing restoration projects helping to preserve its historical charm.Located near the Buna River, Xhamia e Plumbit offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape. The site provides a tranquil environment for reflection and appreciation of the region's spiritual legacy. The mosque's minaret was destroyed by lightning in 1967 and has not yet been restored. In 1948, it was declared a Cultural Monument of Albania. After a reconstruction, supported financially by Turkey, it reopened in 2025.
