Preza Castle, a medieval fortress in Albania, stands proudly on a hilltop overlooking the village of Prezë. Its strategic location, between the plains of Tirana and Durrës, made it a vital point for controlling the road from Durrës to Kruja. The castle acted as a signaling point, exchanging visual messages with the castles of Kruja, Petrela, and Durrës. Originally built in the 14th and 15th centuries by the feudal Thopia family, the castle played a significant role in Albania's resistance against the Ottoman Empire during the 15th century. Its walls and towers, including a clock tower erected in the early 19th century, have been well-preserved. The castle's pentagonal shape features round towers at each corner and a rectangular tower along one wall. Today, Preza Castle is a recognized 'monument of culture', attracting visitors with its historical significance and stunning views. The castle is located close to the Mother Teresa International Airport. Inside, a restaurant offers traditional cuisine, and the large green courtyard provides a perfect spot for picnics.
