Inaugurated on November 1, 1982, the museum is located within the historic Krujë Castle, which served as Skanderbeg's headquarters during his resistance against the Ottoman forces. The museum is designed to harmonize with the medieval architecture of the castle, creating an immersive experience for visitors. Inside, you'll find a wealth of artifacts, including original weapons, armor, documents, and authentic reproductions that vividly depict the history of the Albanian people in the 15th century and beyond. The exhibits also incorporate multimedia displays to bring Skanderbeg's story to life. The museum's collection is organized into several pavilions, including the Antiquity and Early Medieval Pavilion, the Albanian Principalities Pavilion, the Ottoman Occupation and Resistance Pavilion, and more. The walls are adorned with frescoes inspired by Byzantine art, depicting scenes from Skanderbeg's life and the unification of the Albanian principalities. Beyond the historical artifacts, the museum offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
